Bucknell at a Glance
- Bucknell plays its final home game of the 2026 regular season on Saturday against Holy Cross. It will be a busy day at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, with Senior Day and Alumni Day festivities surrounding a critical late-season Patriot League matchup. It will also be the first half of a lax doubleheader, as the Bison women host Boston University at 3 p.m. on their Senior Day.
- The men's squad can secure its first Patriot League Tournament berth since 2022 with a victory over the Crusaders, and Bucknell can still finish as high as fourth with a win and some help. The Bison enter the weekend in sixth place at 3-4, a half-game ahead of Holy Cross and Lehigh, a half-game behind fifth-place Navy, and one game behind fourth-place Colgate.
- This is Bucknell's last Patriot League game of the season, as it finishes up next week with a non-league contest against UMBC.
- The Bison are looking to bounce back from a couple of tough losses to title contenders Army and Boston University. Last week's game in Boston was a barnburner, but the Terriers prevailed 13-12 in overtime. Neither side led by more than two goals all day, and the Bison forced overtime on Anthony Panetti's strike with 1:46 left in regulation. Bucknell nearly won it in the last five seconds, but backup goalie Michael Allieri made the last of his 11 saves to rob Sean Berrigan. Timothy Shannehan then won it on the first possession of OT for the Terriers.
- Bucknell has been strong in the faceoff game all season, but the Bison won only four of the 28 draws against Boston University. Colin McLoy and the Bison will have to be on point this week against one of the league's best in Shane McDonnell, who converts at 58.7%. McDonnell had been No. 1 in the Patriot League until Boston University's Madden Murphy passed him with his strong game against Bucknell last week.
- Bucknell is tied for third in the Patriot League in goals per game at 12.42. Holy Cross, despite its strong faceoff game, is at the bottom of the league at 10.17, although the Crusaders have tallied 13 goals in each of the last two games.
- On the defensive side, Bucknell is fourth in the league with an 11.30 team goals-against average, while the Crusaders are sixth at 11.74.
- Bucknell leads the Patriot League and ranks 10th nationally in fewest turnovers per game with 13.83.
- Michael Meyer (33-16-49) has hit the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career, and he is one point away from reaching 50 points for the second year in a row. Meyer ranks fourth in the Patriot League in points and sixth in goals. Among the NCAA leaders, he is 22nd in both points and goals per game and 10th in man-up goals with five.
- Meyer had multiple points in every game this season until being held to just one goal against Army. He bounced back with a four-point day at Boston University last week. He had a six-goal game against Robert Morris and a six-assist outing against Colgate earlier in the year. Meyer and Boston University's Timothy Shannehan are the only two players in the country to have both a six-goal and a six-assist game this season.
- Meyer has surpassed the 150-point mark in his career (90-71-161). He is now ninth on Bucknell's career points list and eighth on the career assists chart. He needs seven more goals to jump into the top 10 on that chart and 10 to become the eighth 100-goal scorer in team history.
- Fellow senior attackman Owen Kovacs (24-6-30) scored a career-high five goals in the win over Colgate and has 14 goals in the last five games. Kovacs missed his first two seasons due to injury and then broke out with 19 goals in 2025.
- Bucknell has nine double-digit point-producers thus far. In addition to Meyer and Kovacs, Luke Brunner (17-10-27), Peter Grandolfo (19-7-26), Sean Berrigan (16-13-29), Sean Murray (11-11-22), Hans Huber (9-9-18), Anthony Panetti (8-7-15), and Will Hopkins (5-7-12) have all hit double figures. Berrigan and Brunner have surpassed their career scoring highs.
- Berrigan (17), Kovacs (17), Meyer (14), and Brunner (13) have all registered a point in every game this season and have point streaks that date back to 2025.
- Bucknell has used two senior goalies this season. Jaz Zanelli has made eight starts and has a .436 save percentage and a 10.57 GAA. Luke Renaud has started four games and has a .423 save percentage and 12.49 GAA. Zanelli scored his first career goal on a 60-yard shot against Lafayette's 10-man ride, and he also has an assist on a Jack Tully goal earlier in the year.
- Bucknell has committed only 10 penalties in the last six games, and five of those came in the Lafayette game. The Bison were not penalized at all in the Navy game and just once against Colgate, Army, and Boston University.
- The St. Bonaventure win on Feb. 6 was the 400th in program history. The team's inaugural season came in 1968.
- Frank Fedorjaka is in his 21st season as head coach at Bucknell, and he is joined on the staff by defensive coordinator Kyle Gallagher, offensive coordinator Matt Kerwick, and new assistant coach Jackson Mumford.
- The Crusaders are coming off a 13-12 non-league win over Fairfield last Saturday to get back to level at 6-6 on the season. Holy Cross beat Hofstra (9-8) and Merrimack (14-8) in non-league play and posted back-to-back Patriot League wins over Colgate (11-10) and Lafayette (11-9) back in March.
- Sophomore Owen Tunney (22-22-44) is the team's leading scorer. He is fourth in the league in assists and eighth in points. Tunney has been on fire lately with 23 points (9G, 14A) in his last four games.
- Andrew Ottomanelli (17-10-27) has also heated up with hat tricks in two straight games against Navy and Fairfield.
- Aedan Cassidy (15-8-23) is having a strong freshman year, and he will be going up against former Landon teammates Sean Murray and Anthony Panetti on Saturday.
- Shane McDonnell has been another impact freshman for the Crusaders, winning 58.7% of his faceoffs to rank 21st nationally and second in the Patriot League.
- On defense, Michael Rincon is third in the league in caused turnovers with 2.17 per game. He had four CTs and eight ground balls last week against Fairfield, helping Holy Cross come back from a 9-4 deficit in the second half.
- JR Long has started all 12 games in goal and has a .486 save percentage and 11.49 GAA. The Carlisle native is one of three Pennsylvanians on the Holy Cross roster.
- The Bison are 32-2 all-time against the Crusaders, however one of those two losses came last season in Worcester when Holy Cross won 11-10 in double overtime.
- Holy Cross' other win was a 10-8 verdict in Lewisburg in 2017, ending Bucknell's 27-game series winning streak.
- In last year's game, Bucknell led 10-8 after a Will Hopkins goal with 4:51 remaining, but Holy Cross tied it with two late goals, the latter coming from Jude Lynch with 52 seconds left in regulation. Henry Sheehan scored the game-winner 38 seconds into the second OT period. The Bison outshot Holy Cross 46-41 and were led by three-point showings from Hopkins (2-1-3), Connor Davis (2-1-3), Owen Kovacs (2-1-3), and Michael Meyer (1-2-3). Will Messineo scored four goals for the Crusaders.
- In the last meeting in Lewisburg, Bucknell won 12-9 in 2024. After Holy Cross scored four straight goals to tie the game at 9-9 in the fourth quarter, Cam Doolan and Connor Davis scored 90 seconds apart to give the Bison the lead for good. Davis scored five goals and Doolan had four goals and an assist in the game.
- Bucknell and Holy Cross have met just once in the postseason, a 13-7 Bison win in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals in 2016.
- Bucknell finishes up the regular season next Friday, Apr. 24 against UMBC at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pa. It's a 3 p.m. start for the first meeting between the Bison and Retrievers since 2000.
