Louie Germain Receives Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award
5/20/2026 3:22:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior defenseman Louie Germain has been announced as the Bucknell men's lacrosse team's recipient of the inaugural Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award.
The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, established in January 2026 by family members, former coaches, and friends close to Liam, honors its inaugural group of recipients exemplifying leadership, unwavering support for teammates and staff, outstanding sportsmanship, and meaningful community involvement.
Each NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Program selected a student athlete from their team to receive the Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Voted on by players, coaches, and staff, this honor is awarded to the individual on the roster whose teammates most aspire to emulate. Seventy-seven NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Student Athletes and Kennedy Gleason, daughter of Coach Liam Gleason, are the 2026 recipients of the award.
After going down with a season-ending injury early in his sophomore season, Germain was a key member of the Bison defensive corps in 2025 and 2026. He played in all 13 games with five starts this past season, collecting seven ground ball, six caused turnovers, and an assist. He matched his season high with three caused turnovers in a 6-5 overtime loss to Colgate in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.
Off the field, Germain maintained a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average while studying political science and government. He was a member of the executive board of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and within the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute he was an Igniting Leader and a member of the Team Leader Round Table group. He received the Bison Elite Award, the President's Award, and was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree last season.
"Louie exemplifies the highest levels of leadership and humility within our program," said head coach Frank Fedorjaka. "His ability to connect, challenge, and support his teammates is second to none. Louie is the epitome of a team-first individual. We could not be prouder of him and his overwhelming commitment to our program and the university."
Gleason was the Siena head coach when he passed away after a fall at his home in December. The Humanitarian Award program provides the opportunity for his legacy to live on for years to come, something for his family and children to witness.
"Being a light in the world means spreading kindness, love, and positivity to those around you – helping dispel darkness and negativity. Simple acts of compassion can illuminate the lives of others and inspire them to do the same. Liam was that light in the world, and even though his physical presence is gone, his light continues to shine," said Sue Gleason, Liam's mother.
