LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Allie Boyce set career highs with five goals and six points, and classmate Colleen Kazanjian made 10 saves on the way to her first collegiate victory, leading the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to a 16-9 victory over Lafayette in Patriot League women's lacrosse action on Saturday at Graham Field.
The Bison (4-5, 1-1 PL) were clicking early, scoring 13 goals in the game's first 26:10. Bucknell then went scoreless for the next 27:22 as Lafayette cut a 10-goal deficit down to four, but the Bison finished it off by scoring three times in a span of 2:36 in the fourth quarter while holding the Leopards scoreless in the final period.
Bucknell never trailed in the game, as Boyce and Emma Cashwell scored in the game's opening minutes. While Boyce would go on to score four more goals, Cashwell was also on her way to a huge afternoon. She finished with four goals, an assist, and a team-high six draw controls. The five points were a career high for Cashwell, while the four goals tied her personal best.
Kopan scored off a McClain restart just over a minute later to make it a 10-goal game, but that would be it for the Bison until the latter stages of the third quarter. Katie Chiasson, who led Lafayette (1-7, 0-2 PL) with three goals, turned off the running clock with an unassisted tally with 2:03 left in the first half. The Leopards then scored on five of their six shots in the third quarter and pulled within 13-9 on another Chiasson goal with 39 seconds left in the stanza.
Lafayette goalie Lexie Coldiron got hot in the fourth quarter, making five big stops to keep it a four-goal game, with three of those saves coming from point-blank range. After going 5-for-5 on free-position attempts in the first half, Bucknell missed on five straight in the second, but at the other end of the field Kazanjian made two tough saves in a row to rob Olivia Cunningham and keep the Leopards from creeping even closer.
Bucknell finally put the game away with three straight goals in quick succession. Cashwell picked out a corner to end the long drought with 6:28 to play, and she scored again off a McClain feed just 1:12 later. Tatumn Kohlbrenner fed Boyce for her fifth of the day, finishing off the scoring with 3:52 to go.
Bucknell outshot Lafayette 38-21 and won the draw control battle 18-11. Senior defenders Abby Neff (five caused turnovers, three ground balls) and Eva Macris (four GBs, two CTs) paced a solid defensive effort in front of Kazanjian, as the Bison improved to 4-0 on the season when allowing fewer than 10 goals. The Bucknell defense was rock solid in the fourth quarter, forcing four turnovers while holding Lafayette scoreless on only three shots.
This was the start of a busy week of Patriot League action for the Bison, who host Colgate on Wednesday before traveling to Lehigh next Saturday.

Sophomore Taylor Kopan and freshman Taylor McClain both made their first career starts and logged four-point games. Kopan recorded her first career hat trick to go along with an assist, while McClain finished with a goal and three assists. Her first collegiate goal was a beauty, an underhand shovel off a feed from Caroline Miller that gave the Bison a commanding 12-3 lead with 4:55 left in the second quarter.Emma 💵-well with this beauty early and we're off to a good start at Graham Field! It's now 5-1 Bison with 4:13 left in the first quarter. #rayBucknell
