The Bucknell men's soccer team returns to action with a match in Norfolk, Virginia as the Bison take on Old Dominion on Sunday at 1 p.m. at ODU Soccer Stadium. The Monarchs played in Lewisburg last season where the Bison won 4-2 in an exciting match at Emmitt Field.

The Bison have gotten off to a slow start in terms of results, falling to No. 20 Hofstra, Pitt and Fordham to start the season. Bucknell is coming off of a 2-0 loss at home to Fordham last Friday. On the flip side, the Monarchs are off to a hot 4-0 start to their campaign. Old Dominion has outscored its opponents 17-5, highlighted by a dominant 7-1 win over Radford on Wednesday.

Last Time Out for the Bison
- The Bucknell men's soccer team was blanked at home by Fordham 2-0 as the Rams won their first match of the season at Emmitt Field on Friday night.
- Fordham netted two second-half goals to push past the Bison after an even first half.
- Bucknell controlled the ball for most of the final 20 minutes of the half, but several good opportunities and passing plays fizzled out in the end.
- The Rams threatened with a shot on goal in the first minute of play to start the second half. Minutes later, the Rams looked to have scored, but a tight offsides was called to wave off the goal.
- The breakthrough for Fordham came in the 54th minute through Marco Cantalapiedra. The freshman dribbled into the attacking third and found space at the top of the box. He curled his right-footed effort into the left corner to give the Rams the 1-0 advantage.
- The Bison struggled to find any momentum over the remainder of the half. Viktor Permyashkin found space for two shots, but both missed the frame.
- Fordham capitalized on a mistake late in the game to stretch the lead to 2-0. The Bison lost possession in the back line and Sam Delgado dribbled towards goal. He squared his pass to Marc-Alexendre Happi Emaga, who cut back on his right foot past a defender and buried his effort.
- Bucknell is set for a fierce nonconference schedule in 2026. The Bison have already faced No. 23 Hofstra and Pitt, and will face George Mason, Old Dominion and No. 20 Cornell throughout the season. Old Dominion is receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches rankings.
- The Bison fell 2-1 to Hofstra, 3-1 to Pitt and 2-0 to Fordham.
- Junior forward Drew Roskos is the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, and he was voted as the 2026 Patriot League Preseason Forward of the Year. Senior Jack Lucas was voted as the Patriot League Preseason Defender of the Year.
- Bucknell has been plagued by injuries to start the season. The Bison have opened the 2026 campaign without Roskos and Lucas in the squad. Jakub Samelko also missed the first two matches, but played some minutes in his return against Fordham. Roskos, Lucas and Samelko combined for 16 goals and four assists in 2025.
- The Bison have struggled to find goals early in the season with only two tallies in three games.
- Freshman Chayse Snyder scored Bucknell's lone goal against Hofstra, and the 6-foot-4 forward was assisted by fellow freshman Viktor Permyashkin. The goal drew the Bison level 1-1, but Hofstra scored less than a minute later to win 2-1.
- Cade Whitmire scored his first of the season against Pitt with a great effort on a diving header, but Pitt answered with two goals to win 3-1.
- Cade Whitmire and Chayse Snyder have each scored a goal to start the season and lead the Bison in points. Colin Findlay, Viktor Permyashkin and Noah Handzel all have an assist through the first two matches.
- The Bison have struggled to find goals early in the season with only two tallies in three games.
- Chayse Snyder has shown to be dangerous on the attack. The freshman has five shots and three shots on target through the first two matches.
- Colin Findlay and Viktor Permyashkin are both from central Pennsylvania. Permyashkin is a Lewisburg native, and becomes the first Lewisburg graduate to play for Bucknell. Findlay is from Selinsgrove, just 20 minutes south of Lewisburg. Findlay's mother, Chrissy, is a former Bucknell women's soccer coach, and his father, Jim, served as the head coach at Susquehanna University for 28 years. Chayse Snyder is from Mechanicsburg, just 90 minutes from Lewisburg.
- Bucknell has 19 returning players on the 2025 squad. Bucknell's freshman class includes six players: Hamish Riddell, Max Walsh, Marcelo Ojeda, Viktor Permyashkin, Chayse Snyder and Grant Brokaw. The Bison also brought in junior transfers, Colin Findlay and Jack Bejarano.
- Dave Brandt is Bucknell's 14th full-time head coach and just the third dating back to 1967. Brandt, who is now in his fifth season at Bucknell, has a remarkable career record of 375-122-56 in stints at Bucknell, Messiah, Navy, and Hope. Brandt won six Division III national championships at Messiah and led Navy to the 2013 Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament first-round win. Â
- Bucknell got off to a hot start in 2025, but struggled to get results down the final stretch of the season. The Bison ultimately fell to Boston U. on the road 3-1 in the first round of the Patriot League tournament.
- Bucknell had a knack for comebacks last season as the Bison went 4-3-1 in matches they had trailed in during the regular season.
- The Bison also scored in the final 16 minutes in eight of its 18 matches, and they scored a goal in the final five minutes in five matches.
- Bucknell senior class in 2025 combined for eight goals and seven assists last season.
- The Bison ranked third in the Patriot League with 29 goals for and ranked second with 1.611 goals per game.
- The Bison also led the league with 232 shots and 6.33 shots on target per game.
- Defensively, the Bison ranked third in the league with eight clean sheets, and seven of those clean sheets came in Patriot League action.
- Jackson Sullivan, the older brother of Collin, was named the 2025 Patriot League Defender of the Year.
- Drew Roskos, now a junior, was named the 2025 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Season.
- Old Dominion is off to a great start to the season, defeating George Washington, Lehigh, Elon and Radford. The Monarchs also play in a tough Sun Belt Conference.
- The Monarchs went 5-5-8 last season with a 1-3-5 record in conference play. They ultimately fell to West Virginia in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championships.
- Lewis Rourke returns to the squad after an excellent season where he scored 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. He scored both goals against Bucknell in 2025.
- Rourke is off to a hot start this season with three goals and three assists to lead the Monarchs with nine points. He has a point in three of the four matches thus far and has had two four-point matches.
- Jason Purks leads the Monarchs with four goals and has one assist to be level with Rourke at nine points. He has four goals in the last three matches for the Monarchs.
- Noah Dietze, David Chapman and Mile Zivkovic all have two goals. Zivkovic has come off the bench, only playing 67 minutes.
- Ludovico Vicini has three assists. Miguel Menendez, Otu Bisong, Nicholas Alves and Jake Lane all have one goal.
- Alexander Aguilar has a .583 save percentage with seven saves on the season. Aguilar has conceded five goals in four matches and has one clean sheet. The netminder has two assists this season.Â
- Bucknell and Old Dominion will play for the second time in history, and the two sides faced off for the first time in 2025 at Emmitt Field.
- Bucknell won a thrilling 4-2 match as the Bison dominated for the majority of the game. The Monarchs scored just 64 seconds into the match, but the Bison turned in around with four consecutive goals.
- Jack Lucas and Jakub Samelko both scored in the match. Senior Lewis Rourke scored both goals for ODU in the match.
- Bucknell begins Patriot League action against the reigning champions, Lafayette on Saturday, September 12 at 6 p.m. at Emmitt Field.
- The Bison defeated Lafayette 2-0 in Easton with goals from Drew Roskos and Zane Domsohn.
- Bucknell and Lafayette are an even 33-33-11 in the team's history dating back to 1931. The Bison won the very first matchup 3-1.
