Bucknell Hosts Home Weekend Against Army and Duquesne

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell women's tennis is set for a home weekend of play featuring a conference match against Army on Friday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. and a non-conference match up with Duquesne on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
The Bison are entering the matches 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the Patriot League after splitting their two matches last weekend with a loss to Boston U. and a win over Merrimack. Bucknell is currently on a one-game winning streak.

Bucknell's Last Time Out:
- The Bison went 1-1 on the road weekend with a 7-0 loss to Patriot League foe Boston U. followed by a 7-0 win against Merrimack.
- On Friday, Bucknell women's tennis fell in its conference opening match to Boston University 7-0. Boston U. opened the match by taking all three doubles matches to earn the early 1-0 lead. The Terriers then swept the Bison in singles play with six wins to take a 7-0 victory.
- On Saturday, Bucknell women's tennis defeated Merrimack 7-0. Freshmen Kate Purpura and Summer Even-Esh both won their first collegiate points in their singles victories. Purpura defeated Stadler in the No. 6 spot 6-4, 7-5 and Even-Esh won her match in the No. 4 spot over Senanu in comeback fashion 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-5. The Bison opened the day by taking all three doubles matches and then followed that up by sweeping the singles matches to earn a 7-0 win. Mirra Manolov clinched the victory with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Phillips at the No. 2 spot.

- Mirra Manolov leads the Bison in singles wins this year with 11 overall and five dual singles wins across courts two, four, five and six.
- The doubles team of Abby Platt and Riley Jennings lead the team in overall doubles wins with seven overall on court one; they have four dual doubles victories. Cameron King and Natalie Devraj lead the Bison in dual doubles wins with six on court three.
- Overall in doubles play with an assortment of different partners, Cameron King holds the most Bison wins with 12 overall, including six dual doubles wins on court three.
- Most recently, Bucknell went 1-1 with a loss to Boston U. in conference play and then found a 7-0 sweep over Merrimack.
- So far this spring season, the Bison have defeated Saint Francis, Mount St. Mary's and Mercyhurst. Bucknell has fallen to Boston U., Temple, Saint Francis and Villanova.
- At the ITA Conference Masters Championship, Abby Platt made it to the quarterfinal round, Riley Jennings was eliminated in the round-of-16 and the doubles group of Platt and Jennings lost in their quarterfinals match.
- Bucknell played in one dual match in the fall with the Bison coming out on top of Millersville 5-2, winning all doubles matches and four-of-six singles matches.
- The Bison played three tournaments in the fall, one at home and two on the road. Bucknell tested out doubles teams in the fall tournaments in order to finalize the groups heading into the spring season.
- Bucknell women's tennis ended the 2024-25 season with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Championships to Lehigh.
- The team landed two players on the All-Patriot League squad; Whitney King earned a first-team nod and Abby Platt earned second-team honors.
- Heading into the 2025-26 season, the Bison had to restructure their lineup after losing three integral players to graduation in Whitney King, Anna Lajos and Caroline Marcus, who were all in the lineup last season.
- Seniors Abby Platt and Mirra Manolov have been named captains for the 2025-26 season.
- Outside of Platt earning Second Team All-Patriot League last season, she has also found her way onto the record book ahead of her senior season. The Texas native currently ranks 11th in Bucknell history for career doubles victories (60), is tied for 27th in career singles victories (45), ranks 19th in career combined victories (105) and is tied for 10th in single-season doubles victories (22). Last season, Platt went 10-15 in the second spot for singles play. Platt and King were doubles partners and went 18-8 in the one spot. Platt has been doubles partners with King since she first arrived as a freshman in 2022 and will now be looking for a new partner to finish out her career.
- The Bison welcomed a freshman class of three this fall; Summer Even-Esh, Katherine Purpura and Mariana Shulman.
Army at a Glance
- The Black Knights come into the contest 12-3 overall after falling to Rutgers.
- Army is currently on a one-match losing streak with the Rutgers loss.
- This will be the Black Knights first Patriot League match of the season.
- In their last time out, Army was blanked by Rutgers 4-0 as its 12-match winning streak, which dated back to the second weekend of the spring season, was snapped.
- Emily Ruckno leads the team in overall and dual singles wins with a 13-5 record overall and an undefeated 7-0 dual singles record.
- Ruckno also leads the team in dual doubles wins with a 9-1 record alongside Olivia Mellynchuk.
- Madison Smith leads the Black Knights in overall doubles wins with a 21-5 record on court two with different partners. She also leads the team in No.1 singles wins with a 4-1 record and No. 1 doubles wins with a 6-2 record.
Duquesne at a Glance
- Duquesne comes into the match 3-7 overall after falling to Youngstown State.
- The Dukes are currently on a four-match losing streak with straight losses to Dayton, West Virginia, Niagara and Youngstown State.
- Naomi Lalonde leads the team in overall and dual singles wins with a 4-3 record in both across courts one and two. She is 1-0 in her conference singles play thus far.
- Alexandra O'Brien and Taisia Yakunina lead the team in overall and dual doubles play with a 5-3 record in both across courts two and three.
- Alexandra leads the Dukes in overall and dual doubles play across multiple partners as she is 6-3 on courts two and three.
