CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- Bucknell (1-4) picked up its first win in 2025 with a four-set victory (25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 25-19) over Oral Roberts (0-4) on Saturday. The Bison completed the UNC Invitational with a 1-1 record and gained interim head coach Jeremy Young his first coaching win at Bucknell.
The Golden Eagles had 57 kills to the Bison's 54 and picked up six more digs than Bucknell, 72-66. However, Oral Roberts' positive numbers in the two categories were negated by an astronomical 32 attack errors to Bucknell's atomical 13.
Bri Frazilus completed her North Carolina homecoming with a game-high 14 kills. Fellow Tar Heel state native Riley Tucker posted six kills and seven blocks.
Bucknell never trailed or tied in the first set. The Bison blitzed ahead, and while Oral Roberts slid within 10-8, the Orange & Blue unleashed an 8-3 run to essentially seal the set. Bucknell kept stacking points, and despite two Oral Roberts timeouts, rolled to the 25-17 win.
Oral Roberts initially controlled the second set, leading at various times 3-0, 7-4, and 10-8. Bucknell rallied to grab the 13-12 lead before ORU used a 2-0 mini-run to retake the advantage. A 4-0 Bison stretch changed the demographics. The Golden Eagles battled back to take it at 20-20. The teams traded points until the score was 23-23. ORU used a kill and a Shaffer attack error to win the set.
The Bison dominated the third set. With the tally at 4-3 Bucknell, the Orange & Blue stormed out to an 8-1 run, seizing firm control. Bucknell kept scoring and used a 5-0 segment to stretch its lead into double-digits. An attack error by ORU handed the Bison the 25-13 set win.
The Orange & Blue won the fourth stanza by using the first set formula; never trailing or tying. Bucknell sprinted to a 10-5 lead. Oral Roberts fought back and used a 5-0 run to inch within 14-13. The Bison kept calm and skated ahead 23-17. The Golden Eagles called a timeout and grabbed two quick points. It proved meaningless. Two Bison points won the set and game.
