Volleyball Swept Twice in Friday Action

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- Bucknell Volleyball (1-4) was swept by New Hampshire (5-0) and host Boston College (4-0) in Friday's action at the Boston College Invitational.

Bucknell nearly tied New Hampshire in kills, only trailing 35-37. UNH won the contest in the serving game. The Wildcats collected 11 aces to Bucknell's four. The Bison committed 11 service errors to UNH's four.
Sidney Shaffer led the Bison attack with ten kills on a .471 hitting percentage.
The two teams began the opening set on nearly even footing at 6-5 UNH before a Wildcats' 6-1 run gave New Hampshire a commanding advantage. Bucknell twice cut the deficit to four points but UNH answered every Bison challenge with a short run and won the first set, 25-17.
Bucknell raced out to a 12-6 lead in the second set. A 9-2 UNH run halted the Bison's momentum and quickly switched course for the Wildcats. The Orange & Blue stabilized the situation and thrice tied UNH. New Hampshire uncorked a 4-1 run to permanently take the lead and win 25-20.
The Wildcats were on their way to glide to a sweep before the Bison mustered a ferocious rally. UNH led 13-6 and 19-12 and seemed well-ensured of a comfortable win. Bucknell tied the set on a 7-0 run, pockmarked by four UNH errors, two Kaitlyn Taylor kills, and a Peyton McGee ace. The Orange & Blue's celebration was short-lived. An attack error and two straight aces constituted a 3-0 run for New Hampshire. A Bison kill temporarily halted the streak. UNH was undaunted and unleashed three consecutive kills for the set and match win.

The ACC school disposed of Bucknell in straight sets, as the Power Four foe neatly handled the Bison. The Eagles collected 33 kills to Bucknell's 21 and held the Orange & Blue to a .000 hitting percentage.
The opening stanza set the tone. The Eagles flew out an 11-0 start and never let up on the Bison, winning the first set 25-3.
Bucknell displayed better form in the second set, tying it at 3-3 and keeping within three-to-six points for most of the segment. BC finally broke away with an 8-2 run to win the set, 25-14.
The Bison finished the match with their strongest performance. Bucknell led 7-5 before the Eagles seized control with a 6-2 run. The Orange & Blue drew within one point, 11-10, before another Boston College stretch irrevocably handed the initiative to the Eagles. The Bison made one last 5-0 run but a service error gave Boston College the set and match win.
