John Post was named head coach of the Bucknell volleyball program on Jan. 26, 2026. Post, who became the seventh head coach in team history, arrived at Bucknell after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at Yale, where he played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs’ rise in becoming one of the Ivy League’s powerhouses.

“I am thrilled to welcome John Post to Bucknell as our next head volleyball coach,” said vice president for athletics and recreation Tim Pavlechko '91. “As an assistant coach at Yale, John has been successful recruiting high-level scholar-athletes and then mentoring them to become champions on the volleyball court. His technical knowledge along with his commitment to cultivating a cohesive team environment make him an ideal fit to continue the upward trajectory of the Bison volleyball program.”

During his years in New Haven, Yale posted an overall 95-29 record, a sizzling 58-12 mark in conference action, and appeared in three consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2022-24. The Bulldogs stepped up in weight class, defeating foes from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East, and Sun Belt.

In 2022, Yale finished 23-3 and captured the conference title and NCAA Tournament bid while recording the highest win percentage (.885) and RPI (28) in program history. The Bulldogs’ heightened success continued in 2023 with Yale completing the first undefeated season in conference play since 2012 and returning to the NCAA Tournament.

Yale players collected a haul of awards during Post’s tenure, including AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, AVCA All-East First Team, AVCA Division I Player of the Week, Ivy League Player of the Year, Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and 20 All-Ivy selections.

Before he joined Yale, Post coached the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at Nichols College in Massachusetts. Despite both programs’ youthful stages, he achieved several notable outcomes.

In his tenure at Nichols, Post mentored three all-conference selections, a conference Rookie of the Year, a conference Defensive Player of the Year and numerous academic all-conference honorees. He guided the women’s program to a school-record 12 victories in 2019, a seven-win improvement over his first season. Post was at the helm of the inaugural season for the men’s program in 2019 and led Nichols to 17 overall wins and a berth in the NECC semifinals.

Prior to Nichols, Post served as both the head girls volleyball coach at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Conn., and the head boys coach at Xavier High School in Middletown, Conn. At Miss Porter’s, he mentored three NEPSAC All Star selections, and he led Xavier to the semifinals of the state tournament.

In addition, Post served as the head coach of the U16 Husky Volleyball Club boys’ team and girls’ national team.

Post began his coaching career as a student assistant with the men’s volleyball team at East Stroudsburg, his alma mater, in 2009. After one season as the head JV coach and varsity assistant coach at Xavier (2010), Post was named head coach of the girl’s program at East Hampton (Conn.) High School, where he remained until taking over at Miss Porter’s School. Post guided East Hampton to the semifinals of the state tournament twice (2011, 2014).

From 2012-17, Post was the U16 Head Coach and 16-and-under Club Director for the Mizuno East Volleyball Club. He oversaw the development of players and coaches at the under-16 age level and was the head coach of the top U16 boys’ team. Post coached four teams which advanced to the USA Volleyball National Championships; he was an assistant coach on both the 2017 U18 Club National Championship squad and the 2016 U17 team that placed third.

Post graduated from East Stroudsburg in 2009 with a bachelor of arts in communication studies. He was a four-year member of the Warriors volleyball program as a setter (2004-08), serving as captain during his final campaign.
