
Volleyball Swept by Reigning National Champion Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The reigning national champion No. 12 Penn State (4-3) demonstrated its prowess in a 3-0 sweep of the Bucknell Bison (1-5) on Tuesday night at Rec Hall. Bucknell fell 19-25, 10-25, and 20-25 against the Big Ten foe.
The Nittany Lions dominated the statistical categories, outhitting the Bison .362 to .079 and doubling up in kills 46-22. Digs were nearly even with PSU edging BU, 34-29.
Tijana Kostic led the Bison with nine kills and a solid .375 hitting percentage. Bri Frazilus added six kills.
Emmi Sellman paced Penn State with a game-high ten kills. Jordan Hopp hit an astronomical .857. Addie Lyon performed expertly at setter with 35 assists.
Bucknell scored the two points of the game but Penn State responded with a 4-0 run. The Bison rallied to tie the set at 7-7. The Nittany Lions, showing championship mettle, used a 6-1 stretch to permanently break away. The Orange & Blue inched within four points multiple times but never got closer as the Blue & White won 25-19.
The Bison grabbed the 1-0 lead in the second set, but the rest of the set was all Penn State, as the Nittany Lions raced to a 10-3 lead. Bucknell replied with a 3-0 run. Penn State did the same, capped by two aces, forcing a Bison timeout, and the Blue & White went on to win the second set, 25-10.
The third set featured a close contest. Penn State scored the first point but the Bison rallied for the 5-3 lead. The advantage was short-lived; PSU regained the lead with a 6-1 segment. Bucknell battled back and kept inching closer and closer, eventually tying the set at 18-18 and 19-19. PSU put the game and set into the victory column with a 6-1 run.
