Lewisburg, Pa. - Allie Boyce notched a hat-trick and Juliana Pagano scored her first collegiate goal in the Bison's 17-6 loss to Navy on Saturday afternoon. Bucknell fell to 4-5 overall on the season and 0-2 in the Patriot League with the loss at Christy.
Navy's offense proved to be a force throughout the entire game as they out-shot the Bison 37 to 21 and held a firm hold of the lead for a majority of the contest. Play began with Navy's Alyssa Chung getting a behind the back goal. Boyce was able to answer with a free-position goal to tie the game at one, which would prove to be the closest the game would get. For the rest of the quarter, Navy out-scored Bucknell six to one.
The remainder of the game continued in that fashion with Bucknell struggling to find the back of the net while Navy out-scored them 9-4 after the first. The Bison also went 9-for-25 on the draw, which led to a struggle in getting possession and offensive opportunities. The fourth quarter only saw two goals, one per team, as a period of heavy rain proved to affect both sides causing many more turnovers and mistakes than the rest of the game saw.
Throughout the contest both teams had struggles with taking care of the ball. Bucknell had 14 turnovers and caused eight while Navy had 15 turnovers and caused 12. The Midshipmen provided a lot of pressure on the defensive end, making it difficult for the Bison to find an open lane and take care of the ball in regular play, which made the Bison scoring efforts heavily reliant on free-position opportunities.
Bucknell went 3-for-5 on free-position shots in the contest, which is where they found half of their goals. Boyce's hat-trick puts her at 133 total career goals which is just 11 goals away from matching the school record held by Suzanne Raffaele '03. Alongside Boyce's three goals and Pagano's first collegiate goal, Megan Krestinski and Kat Reynolds also found the back of the net for the Bison.
Colleen Kazanjian played the full 60 minutes in the net for Bucknell and made ten saves on the afternoon. She garnered a .370 save percentage in the contest.
Bucknell will return for a busy week of home play as they take on Lehigh on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Holy Cross on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. for senior day at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in search of its first Patriot League win.
