
Volleyball's Win Streak Reaches Double Digits in Four-Set Win over Army

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison volleyball team (10-1, 2-0 Patriot League) won in four sets (25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22) over the visiting Army Black Knights (4-7, 0-2 Patriot League) to improve to 2-0 in conference play. Bucknell raced to a 2-0 set lead before falling in the third stanza. The Bison regrouped and conquered the fourth set clinching its first home victory versus Army since 2015.
Bri Frazlius, Tijana Kostic, and Sidney Shaffer led the Bison with 13 kills apiece. Riley Tucker collected nine kills on a sizzling .412 hitting percentage. Cameron Lloyd continued her birthday weekend celebration with nine kills. Caleigh O'Connell provided her usual exemplary setting with 46 assists.
Jordan Hardy added 23 digs, which pushed her past Navy's Sydney Shearn for sixth all-time in the Patriot League record book. Hardy now has 1,709 digs while Shearn posted 1,708 during her time in Annapolis.
The first set started foreboding for the Bison as Army charged to a 6-1 lead. Bucknell continued to fight back but the Black Knights consistently remained four-to-five points ahead. The Bison cut the deficit to 17-15 before a 3-0 Army run appeared to seal the set. Instead, the Orange & Blue rallied for a 9-1 run to win the opening round. Three Frazlius kills powered the Bison offensive.
The second stanza began more evenly with both teams trading points until the tally was 6-6. Bucknell uncorked a 4-0 run, obtaining a lead it would never yield. The Bison stretched the advantage to 20-13. Army scored a few points but the Bison kept pace and won the set 25-18.
Bucknell was gunning for the sweep but Army met the challenge and fought resoultely in the third set. Down 10-8, the Bison grabbed the lead with a 4-0 run. The two teams started to seesaw with lead changes and ties. A Cameron Lloyd kill tied the score at 19-19. Army scored two quick points before Bucknell did the same. The squad each traded a point before a 3-0 West Point run prevented the sweep.
The Bison struck first in the fourth set scoring quickly and often. Army tried to keep pace with the Bison's speed and managed to inch within 9-7. A 4-0 Bucknell run provided breathing space. The Black Knights cut the advantage to 16-15. The Bison countered with a 5-1 run. Army struck back and tied the game at 21-21. Like in the previous set, the teams traded points and then a 3-0 run decided the situation. Bucknell earned the decisive stretch and the win, thanks to two blocks by O'Connell and Shaffer.
Bucknell remains at Davis Gym next weekend for two games versus Lafayette (Sept. 28) and Lehigh (Sept. 29).
