LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (7-12, 3-7 PL) conquered the first set but Lehigh (15-3, 8-2 PL) demonstrated why its program sits positioned second in the conference by winning the next three sets to take home the four stanza victory (25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 19-25) on Saturday afternoon. The Bison have now lost four straight matches after moving to .500 in conference play several weeks ago.Â
Marion Haskell, healthy again, led Bucknell with 16 kills. Cameron Lloyd supplied 14 kills and nine digs, narrowly missing a double-double. Klea Tarja received the start and delivered ten kills. Sidney Shaffer produced 12 points on seven kills and five total blocks.Â
Lehigh had 63 kills to Bucknell's 51 and 64 digs to the Orange & Blue's 51. The Mountain Hawks also generated five aces to the Bison's zero. Both teams were active at the net with a combined 24 blocks.Â
Bucknell rallied for an epic win in the opening set. Lehigh led 21-17 until Bucknell picked up three straight points. The Mountain Hawks scored two more points and seemed to blunt the Orange & Blue's hopes. Tarja landed a kill and two attack errors and two blocks handed the 25-23 set one win to Bucknell.Â
The second set seemed to follow the same script as the opening stanza. Lehigh drew ahead 16-11 before a 7-1 Bison rally flipped the momentum. The teams traded points until it was 20-20. Lehigh uncorked a 5-1 run to draw even with Bucknell.Â
The two squads were deadlocked at 8-8 before Lehigh slowly separated and led 17-11. The Mountain Hawks again seemed to fly out of danger but the Bison stampeded to within 23-22. However, the charge ended there, as Lehigh won the final two points.Â
Bucknell attempted to force a fourth set and looked in good position with the score at 11-11. Lehigh, once again, put together a massive run - this one at 6-0 - to create separation. The Orange & Blue's reserve tanks were exhausted and Lehigh cruised to the set four win and match victory.Â
Bucknell welcomes Lafayette to Davis Gym tomorrow. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.Â
