EASTON, Pa.- Cameron Lloyd collected a game-high 16 kills to lead the Bucknell Bison (17-2, 9-1 Patriot) in its second sweep of the season over the Lafayette Leopards (6-13, 1-9 Patriot). The Orange & Blue were barely threatened recording decisive wins in every set (25-14, 25-17, 25-17). The Bison completed a 2-0 weekend in the Lehigh Valley and did not lose a single set against Lafayette or Lehigh.
The victory gave Bucknell a half game lead over American and Colgate in the always tight Patriot League. American and Colgate are tied for second at 9-2 after American defeated Colgate tonight.Â
Lloyd's 16 kills arrived via a sparkling .381 hitting percentage. Bri Frazilus added 13 kills and Sidney Shaffer chipped in 11. Frazilus hit a dazzling .571. Kostic produced two kills and gathered a career-high 28 digs. Caleigh O'Connell supplied 36 assists.
The Leopards were helpless against Bucknell's furious attack. The Bison outhit Lafayette .339 to .102 and only produced five attack errors to the home team's 19. Bucknell hit above .300 in every set.Â
The Leopards led 1-0 in the first set and never had the advantage again. The contest remained close at 4-3 Bucknell until the Bison ripped off a patented big run to put the contest to bed. A 3-0 Lafayette stretch temporarily broke up the Bison run but the Orange & Blue quickly regained its advantage. A Lloyd kill ended the set in Bucknell's favor.
Lafayette created early drama in the second set tying Bucknell at 7-7. A 7-1 Bison run quickly extinguished any remaining hope for Lafayette supporters. A flicker of flame remained when the Leopards drew within 17-14 but the Bison kept any drama to the minimum. Shaffer recorded the final two kills to put the Bison in the catbird seat.Â
The third set did not see Lafayette go quietly into the dark night. Instead, they strongly defended the Kirby Sports Center court by jumping out to a 11-4 lead. It proved meaningless. The Bison counterattacked with a 10-1 stretch and then extended the sequence into a 17-2 run. Frazlius provided the final sentence with her 13th kill of the evening.Â
Bucknell returns to Davis Gym to host the Navy Midshipmen (Nov. 1) and the American Eagles (Nov. 2).Â
