HAMILTON, N.Y.- The Bucknell Bison volleyball team (15-2, 7-1 Patriot) suffered its first loss since late August when the Colgate Raiders (9-9, 7-1 Patriot) snapped the Orange & Blue's 15-game winning streak by beating Bucknell in four sets (25-15, 20-25, 14-25, 14-25). Bucknell won the first set but the Raiders dominated the last three sets to move into a tie with the Bison for first place in the Patriot League standings.
Bri Frazilus's 16 kills led the Bison, as she was the only Bucknell player to record double-digit kills. Tijana Kostic added nine kills. Jordan Hardy collected 17 digs. Caleigh O'Connell provided 35 assists. Riley Tucker was a wall with five blocks.
Bucknell dominated the opening set, hitting a magnificent .519 to Colgate's .083. The Bison stormed to a 9-2 advantage and never let up. Colgate squeezed within 15-11 before a Bucknell timeout halted their momentum. A final 3-0 run capped by a Hardy service ace won the first set.
The Bison started the second set 4-0 but it proved the high water mark for the afternoon. Colgate ripped off a 7-0 run and never looked back. The Raiders extended their lead to 18-11. Bucknell kept fighting but never got closer than 24-20. A Sidney Shaffer service error ended the set in Colgate's favor.
The third set began 2-0 Bucknell. Once again, Colgate immediately counterattacked. This time, the run was 10-1. The Raiders kept scoring and increased the deficit to 17-6. Bucknell played on even terms 8-8 for the rest of the set but that proved beneficial for the Raiders as they sat in the catbird seat.
Colgate started the final set 3-0 and never trailed. A 7-0 Raiders run when the score was 11-8 effectively ended the set and the game. A late 5-1 Bucknell rally provided some late hope until Colgate ended everything with a 5-0 stretch.
Bucknell has a bye next weekend before returning to action at Lehigh (Oct. 25) and Lafayette (Oct. 26).
