Women’s Lacrosse Rides Fast Start to 15-8 Win at Robert Morris
2/25/2023 6:27:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Emily Baird recorded her second straight four-goal game, freshman Caroline Sheridan produced her first career hat trick, and Taylor McClain handed out a career-high six assists to lead the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to a 15-8 win over Robert Morris on Saturday at Joe Walton Stadium.
Now 2-2 on the season, Bucknell scored 10 straight goals on the way to a commanding 11-1 halftime lead, and after Robert Morris (0-3) scored four straight goals to start the second half, the Bison regained control with two straight goals from Baird and another from Sheridan to close out the third quarter.
McClain now has 10 assists in her last two games – both resulting in road victories – and a team-high 14 on the season. Her six assists on Saturday were third-most in a game in team history and two shy of the school record. Carol Donohue collected eight assists against Wagner in 2008, and Pam Brooks had seven against Northeastern in 1984. McClain is the sixth Bison to amass six assists in a game and the first since Christina Manis against Temple in 2017.
Sheridan started the scoring just 1:10 into the match. Chelsea Coleman tied it 50 seconds later, but Baird's first of the day at the 10:06 mark got the Bison rolling. Sheridan added another goal moments later, and Taylor Kopan scored twice and Allie Boyce once to make it 6-1 after one period.
Megan Krestinski bookended a five-goal second-quarter with a pair of goals, and McClain even scored herself to make it a seven-point afternoon.
Coleman scored three times in the Colonials' 4-0 run to start the second half, but Bucknell's three goals in a span of 1:28 late in the third quarter put the game away. Robert Morris outscored the Bison 3-1 in a ragged fourth quarter with lots of subs on the field.
Bucknell won the draw-control battle 15-12 – Ella Payer led all players with eight -- and took good care of the ball with only 12 turnovers and 17-for-18 clearing efficiency. The Bison finished with a 38-25 shot advantage.
Symone Ryans went the distance in goal and finished with six saves, while Jamie Keller tallied seven for the Colonials.
Bucknell returns home to face St. Bonaventure next Saturday at 4 p.m. at Graham Field.
