LEWISBURG, Pa. — Despite holding #8 Navy scoreless for twelve and a half minutes and only being down by two at halftime, Bucknell women's lacrosse ultimately fell to the top-seeded Midshipmen 18-8 in the Patriot League Semifinals in Annapolis on Thursday afternoon after the Midshipmen came out with a second-half surge that was too much for Bucknell to handle.
In the loss, senior attacker Megan Krestinski broke Bucknell's career points record as her two goals and one assist in the contest brought her to a total 187 career points. The previous record of 185 points was held by Carol Donohue '10, whom Krestinski recently passed for the single-season points record as well.
Senior defender Jess Leon also found herself a record in the contest as she recorded three ground balls which was just enough to tie Bucknell's single-season ground balls record of 49.
The first quarter of the game was all Navy as the Midshipmen scored five straight to open the game before Krestinski found her record-tying goal to make it 5-1. Bucknell was able to hold Navy scoreless for twelve and a half minutes and outscore the Midshipmen 3-1 in the second quarter thanks to a Coach Dando goal challenge that went successful and led to three Bella Crowley saves and a goal by Alex Macutek to make it a two goal game at halftime. The two goal-game at the end of the second quarter marks just the fifth time this season that Navy has been in that close of a game entering the second half. The only other teams to have that close of a first half with Navy in 2026 have been Loyola, Jacksonville, Florida and Delaware.
The Midshipmen came into the second half with some adjustments and out-scored the Bison 8-2 in the third quarter to take a 14-6 lead into the fourth. Navy then held the momentum and dominated the final 15 minutes of play, scoring four times to Bucknell's two and earning the win.
Caleigh Cummiskey and Krestinski led the Bison in scoring with three points apiece, each on two goals and one assist. Seniors Caroline Sheridan, Alex Macutek and Katie Browne rounded out Bucknell's scoring with one goal each, with Sheridan also tacking on an assist.
Navy out-shot Bucknell 42-24 in the contest, thanks to earning more offensive opportunities off of the draw as the Midshipmen won 20 of the 29 draw controls on the day. The Bison struggled with turnovers, having 15 to the Midshipmen's 11 and only causing four to the 11 caused by Navy. Jess Leon led the Bison in caused turnovers with two, while Katie Browne led Bucknell in draw control wins with four.
The ground ball battle was close amongst these two teams as Navy edged out Bucknell 15-13 in the category. Jess Leon and Catherine Dineen led the Bison in ground balls with three each.
Bella Crowley had an impressive game in the back of the net for Bucknell as she found eight saves in the game alongside her 15 goals against for a .348 save percentage. Senior goalie Julia Dembowitz also saw some time in the back of the net in the contest for the Bison.
Navy opened the game on a 3-0 run that began with a quick goal from Emma Kennedy off of the first draw. Bucknell's Bella Crowley came up with a save and the Bison defense had another stop as well, but two straight turnovers for the Bison led to the Midshipmen's next goal by Taylor Miles. Estella Geller then had a chance at a shot after Bucknell's defense caused a turnover, but Felicia Giglio, the Patriot League Goalie of the Year came up with a save. Navy then extended its scoring run to 5-0 with back-to-back goals from Miles and Alyssa Chung. Megan Krestinski answered with a nice move on her defender as she found Bucknell's first goal of the game and tied the program record for career points.
Bucknell opened the second quarter with a 2-0 run to cut the deficit down to two as it held Navy scoreless for twelve and a half minutes. Estella Geller sent a rocket of a shot to the back of the net to cut the Bison deficit to three after the first four minutes went scoreless. Four additional minutes later, Caleigh Cummiskey lined up for a free-position attempt, but found Caroline Sheridan on the crease who made a nice move on the goalie to cut the deficit to two with 7:16 left in the first half. Navy then found its first goal of the second quarter to make it 6-3. The Midshipmen then took a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar which the referees called a goal, but upon a Coach Dando challenge, the goal was overturned keeping the scoreline at 6-3. Navy maintained possession and Crowley came up with three straight saves for the Bison which ultimately led to Alex Macutek finding a lane and goal for Bucknell to close the gap to two at the end of the first half.
The Midshipmen scored four straight goals to extend their lead to 11-4 before Cummiskey converted a free-position shot into a goal for Bucknell. Navy then found another scoring run to make it a 14-6 game late in the third quarter. Krestinski then got a free-position shot that she converted into a goal, earning the title of Bucknell's all-time points scorer.
The fourth quarter opened with Navy scoring two straight goals to make it 16-6 with 11:08 left in regulation. Katie Browne then got one back for the Bison, but Navy answered with two more to take it to an 18-7 game with under four minutes to play. Cummiskey and the Bison had the lat goal of the game, but it wouldn't be enough to battle back as the contest would end in favor of Navy 18-8.
With the Patriot League Semifinal loss, the Bison's 2026 season has officially come to an end, with Bucknell earning an overall record of 10-7 and Patriot League record of 5-4.
