Women’s Lax Holds Off St. Bonaventure, 10-8
3/5/2022 6:04:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
OLEAN, N.Y. – Allie Boyce recorded her second straight hat trick, and Caitlin Tucker made 14 saves between the pipes to lift the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to its third straight win, 10-8 over St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
Now 3-1 on the season, the Bison have their first three-game winning streak since 2017. On the heels of one-sided home wins over Robert Morris and Duquesne, Bucknell sprinted to a 10-3 lead after three quarters in this one, then had to hold on down the stretch after the Bonnie made a late rally.
Laurel McHale and Caroline Miller added two goals apiece, and Emily Baird dished out two assists as the Bison outshot St. Bonaventure 34-29.
Kaitlyn Rokitka (3), Kassi Hogan (2), and Sarah Owens (2) combined for seven of the eight goals for the Bonnies, who fell to 0-5 on the season.
The Bison quickly jumped on top 3-0, and after a dominant second quarter, they led 7-1 at halftime. Boyce scored three times in the first half and also had an apparent goal overturned. Her free-position tally while getting shoved from behind at the 4:29 mark made it a 7-1 contest.
Defender Ella Payer got forward in transition, took a feed from Miller, and scored her first goal of the season midway through the third quarter, and about four minutes later Baird sent a fancy behind-the-back pass to Emma Cashwell for a goal and a seemingly commanding 10-3 lead.
The Bonnies made things interesting in the fourth quarter, scoring five straight times. Hogan and Rokitka tallied 30 seconds apart to start the surge. Bucknell's only failed clear all day led to a Rebecca Howe goal that made it a 10-8 game with 1:08 to go.
Payer nabbed the ensuing draw control, however, and Bucknell was able to melt the final minute off the clock. The draw circle was a major advantage all day for the Bison, who won 15 of 21.
Tucker made 12 saves while allowing only three goals through three quarters, and her total of 14 saves was a season high. Ashley Herrick made 15 stops for St. Bonaventure.
Bucknell is back in action on Monday, taking on Campbell on Monday at the US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.
