Women's Lacrosse Student-Athletes Take On Summer Internships

Bucknell women’s lacrosse players are the true definition of student-athletes. These women excel in both their sport and their academics and it doesn’t stop when they go home for summer break. While continuing to hone their lacrosse skills, many of the student-athletes also take part in summer internships.
Over a plethora of different majors, Bucknell women’s lacrosse players held significant internships this past summer that helped launch their careers prior to leaving Lewisburg.
Let’s take a look at some of the internships our Bison women’s lacrosse players took part in over the summer.
Gigi Abernethy - Summer Analyst - Bochi Investments & Marketing Intern - Formless Beauty
This past summer Gigi Abernethy had the opportunity to do two internships, one as a Summer Analyst at Bochi Investments and another as a Marketing Intern at Formless Beauty.
Bochi Investments is a Private Equity Firm based in Lake Oswego, Oregon near Abernethy’s home town of Portland.
“While interning at Bochi Investments,” said Abernethy, “I gained hands-on experience in financial analysis and got an inside look at portfolio company operations by being able to visit several of the firm's holdings.”
Working as a Marketing Intern at Formless Beauty, was a contrasting perspective to Abernethy’s intern work at Bochi investments, giving her valuable insight into both industries as she continues to find her career path as just a sophomore.
“I am incredibly grateful to both teams for their mentorship, exposure and the hands-on experience they provided,” said Abernethy. “These experiences have taught me valuable lessons that I am excited to carry forward and apply to my future endeavors."
Abby Henderson - Public Finance Banking Intern - Roosevelt & Cross Inc.
Senior Abby Henderson served as a Public Finance Banking Intern at Roosevelt & Cross Incorporated throughout the summer.
“I gained valuable hands-on experience in the municipal bond market through Municipal Bond School and intern projects,” said Henderson. “I also strengthened my understanding of the different aspects of R&C in underwriting, sales and banking.
The internship experience confirmed Henderson’s interest in public finance and provided her with knowledge that she plans to bring into her senior year at Bucknell.
Corbin Callaway - Summer Analyst - Bourne Partners
Corbin Callaway, a senior on the women’s lacrosse team, spent her summer as a summer analyst at Bourne Partners, a boutique investment bank specializing in healthcare IB. Bourne Partners is based in Charlotte, NC.
“While I was at Bourne Partners, I was tasked with helping the teams work on pitches, market research, due diligence, financial analysis and assisting during live deals,” said Callaway. “I gained a better understanding of the healthcare industry and how investment bankers advise clients on strategic decisions. I also strengthened my financial modeling and analytical skills.”
At the end of her summer internship, Callaway was given a return offer by the company and will start working as a full-time analyst after graduation.
Toni Plunkett - Summer Intern - Breakaway Wealth Management
Toni Plunkett, who is entering her junior year at Bucknell, spent her summer as an intern at Breakaway Wealth Management.
“I had a great experience learning more about the wealth management industry and working alongside an amazing team,” said Plunkett. “I found that many of the skills I’ve developed through lacrosse like communication, teamwork, discipline and being able to perform in a fast-paced environment translated directly into the workplace. Overall, the experience helped me grow both professionally and personally while confirming my interest in pursuing a career in finance.”
Sophie Pyznar - Civil Engineering and Management Intern - Falcon Engineering
Incoming freshman Sophie Pyznar got her internship work started before she even stepped foot on Bucknell’s campus as a student. The summer prior to beginning her collegiate journey, Pyznar served as a Civil Engineering and Management Intern at Falcon Engineering.
“I learned how to do civil building inspections, use CAD and had a lot of experience with management and excel sheets.”
Pyznar has been interning with Falcon Engineering for the past three years and plans to continue to work for the company this upcoming summer.
Kam Schmitt - Talent Acquisition Intern - Coca-Cola
A junior on the women’s lacrosse team, Kamryn Schmitt, spent her summer with Coca-Cola Northeast as a Talent Acquisition intern.
“I gained hands-on experience with sourcing, recruiting, research, interviews and the hiring process while with Coca-Cola,” said Schmitt. “This experience taught me so much about working in a professional environment, strengthened my communication and organizational skills and gave me a better understanding of my career interests. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and everyone who helped make my internship such a meaningful experience.”
Katie Wolin - Client Advisory Intern - Bessemer Trust
Senior Katie Wolin worked for Bessemer Trust in their Boston office as a Client Advisory Intern this past summer. Bessemer Trust is a privately owned multi-family office and wealth management firm.
“Over the 10-week program, I learned firsthand what goes into serving clients and their families,” said Wolin. “Throughout the summer, I gained exposure to client advisory work, investments, wealth planning, portfolio discussions and collaboration that takes place across the firm. I was constantly learning and mentored by my co-workers and fellow interns and developed a better understanding of what it means to be a trusted advisor. I really enjoyed my experience.”
At the end of the 10-week program, Wolin learned that she will be returning to Bessemer Trust full-time after graduation as an Associate Client Advisor in Boston.
These are just some of the work experiences that the student-athletes from the women’s lacrosse team took part in over the summer, with many other players also taking on internships during their off-time as well.
Two other internships of note are Ava Harris, who interned for BJ’s Wholesale Club and Olivia Selleck, who interned for the New Hampshire Department of Justice in the Office of the Attorney General.
Bucknell women’s lacrosse will continue to strive for greatness in all aspects of the student-athlete experience while gearing up for its 2027 season.
