BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team toppled Campbell, 13-10, on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
The Bison (3-4, 0-0 PL) used a 7-0 run that stretched from the first half's 9:03 mark to the second half's 12:02 mark to dispatch the Camels (1-7, 0-0 Big South) in the first ever meeting between the teams.Â
Bucknell's attack was led by Tegan Warren (4g), Eve Calabria (1g-3a), Morgan Steinhacker (3g) and Kali Peeples (1g-2a). Notably, Peeples found the back of the net with just one second remaining in the first half; that goal gave the Bison momentum entering the intermission, which they used to score the second half's first five goals.
In net, Lauren Kinnee made 11 saves. Peeples and defenders Eva Macris and Jessie Britton each collected three ground balls while Gabby Walsh caused three turnovers.
Peeples and Steinhacker both posted three draw controls; Steinhacker now has 118 career draw controls, good for sixth in Bucknell history and two shy of fifth.
For Campbell, Alexis McDaniel (2g-2a) and Mackenzie Kolesar (3g) led the attack while Alex Salim made 13 saves. Sam Carey posted a game-best seven draw controls while Kennedy Boyle led all players with four ground balls.
The teams found themselves locked in six ties over the course of the first 30 minutes. After the Camels took a 6-5 lead with 9:37 on the clock in the first half, Julia Bradbury found the back of the net 34 seconds later to even the score at 6-6. Peeples's last-second goal gave Bucknell a 7-6 lead entering the break.
Bradbury and Peeples's tallies kicked off the Bison's game-deciding 7-0 run. Campbell scored four of the game's final five goals but ran out of time to complete its comeback.
Bucknell held advantages in shots (33-23), shots on goal (27-21) and ground balls (24-17); the Bison also went a perfect 16-for-16 on their clears. The Camels held a 15-10 advantage in draw controls thanks to Boyle's efforts.
Bucknell wraps up its four-game road swing with a 4 p.m. tilt at Furman on Tuesday, March 10. The Bison then host Navy for their Patriot League opener on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
