Women's Lacrosse Rides Hot Start to 16-9 Win at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team rode a hot start to a 16-9 victory over Binghamton on Wednesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
The Bison (2-0, 0-0 PL) carried an 11-3 lead into halftime, bolstered by a 6-0 run that stretched from the 18:21 to the 5:37 marks of that frame. Eve Calabria, who finished the game with six points (3g-3a), logged five (3g-2a) in the first half alone.
The closest the Bearcats (0-1, 0-0 AEC) drew the rest of the way was four goals; after they netted the first four goals of the second half to make it an 11-7 game, Bucknell responded with three unanswered goals of its own to put the game out of their reach.
Beyond Calabria, Caroline Walsh netted her first career hat trick. In total, nine Bison scored a goal, with five enjoying multi-goal outings.
Lauren Kinnee made nine saves while Calabria tied three other players for the team lead in ground balls (3). Gabby Walsh, Caroline's twin, led the Bison with two caused turnovers while first-year Ella Payer logged a game-best five draw controls. Notably, eight different Bison caused a turnover.
For Binghamton, Paige Volkmann led the attack with five points (4g-1a) while Alexa Franze had a strong game defensively, posting game-best totals in caused turnovers (3) and ground balls (4).
Bucknell finished with advantages in shots (34-25), shots on goal (23-18) and draw controls (16-11); the teams tied in ground balls, each collecting 24.
The Bison continue their New York road swing with a game at Hofstra on Saturday at 2 p.m.
