Calabria scored three times for Bucknell
ALBANY, N.Y. -- A 7-0 run bridging the halftime interval helped send UAlbany on its way to an 18-9 decision over Bucknell in non-league women's lacrosse action on Saturday at Casey Stadium. Eve Calabria recorded a five-point day for the Bison with three goals and two assists, but the Great Danes received five goals from Kendra Harbinger and led wire-to-wire.Â
Tegan Warren notched two goals and an assist, and Sarah Dohler, Kate Fiore, Morgan Steinhacker and Emma Cashwell also scored for the Bison. Cashwell, a freshman, recorded her first collegiate goal to get the Bison on the scoreboard and cut into an early 2-0 deficit. UAlbany went up 4-1, but back-to-back goals from Calabria and Fiore just 56 seconds apart made it a 4-3 game.Â
But the Great Danes responded with three unanswered, and later they stretched an 8-5 lead up to 11-4 at the half with three tallies in the final 2:44. UAlbany then opened the second stanza with four more in succession to make it 15-5. The Bison made a late push with three straight goals, the latter two coming from Warren just 21 seconds apart.Â
Bucknell had a good day in the draw circle, winning 16 of 28, including four draw controls each from Fiore and Kali Peeples. The Bison were held back by 18 turnovers, however, resulting in a 40-22 shot advantage for UAlbany. Jamisen DeWitt tallied nine saves and a team-high seven ground balls, and Lauren Kinnee came off the bench to make one save.Â
Harbinger added an assist for a six-point afternoon for the Great Danes, who are now 2-0 on the season after an earlier come-from-behind win over Yale. Kyla Zapolski tacked on three goals, and Paige Werlau had two goals and two assists.Â
Bucknell (0-3) will play its next three games at home, starting Wednesday against Howard at 4:30 p.m. in a late addition to the schedule after last week's game against Saint Francis (Pa.) was washed out.Â
