A four-year football letterman as a wide receiver and kick returner, David Kucera set (and still holds) school season records of 73 receptions for 1,029 yards while earning Associated Press All-America second team honors In 1984. Now third behind Tom Mitchell and Jim Horan on the career lists with 144 catches for 1,980 yards, Kucera had 15 career TD receptions, set a then-school record with seven TD catches in 1983, and scored 94 points in his career despite missing the equivalent of nearly a full season because of injuries. The recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, he led all Division I-AA players in the East and was fourth in the nation in 1984 with 7.3 catches per game, and he had a career average of 11.3 yards per punt return while setting a school record of 465 return yards. A graduate of Downingtown (Pa.) High School, Kucera was an honorable mention All-America selection in 1983, was co-MVP of the 1984 team and received the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the outstanding senior athlete.
