Sport: Diving
The first female athlete at Bucknell to receive All-America recognition, Cathy Karpuk Seward earned four varsity letters as a diver on the swimming and diving teams, and she is generally regarded as the finest female diver ever at Bucknell. A team co-captain in 1976-77, she placed fifth in the three-meter dive and sixth in the one-meter event that year at the AIAW Small College National Championships to earn the All-America honors. She was in the top 10 off both boards at the 1975 Eastern Championships. Karpuk Seward, who set Bucknell one and three-meter diving records, had 47 first-place finishes, four seconds and seven thirds in her four-year dual-meet career, one of the finest records by a swimmer or diver in Bucknell history. A graduate of Glastonbury (Conn.) High School, she was also active in the Synchronettes and the sailing club and was elected a Homecoming Hostess in 1976.
