Men’s Tennis Has Big Singles Day at CMU Invite

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team opened play at Carnegie Mellon's home invitational on Friday, and the Bison enjoyed a strong day in singles against Duquesne in a hidden duals format. Bucknell won seven of the eight singles matches, including a pair of three-setters, against the Dukes.

Senior Liam Kilmer made his season debut in the top spot in the lineup and grinded out a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5) win over Aril Kayra Tuna. Fellow senior Will Robinson was also victorious, 6-4, 6-2 over Gianluca Citadini. Junior Nelson Alapi downed Zidaan Hassan 6-3, 6-4, while sophomore Tyler Bush outlasted Teo Papadapoulos 6-2, 5-7, 10-7.

The Bison also received three singles wins from freshmen. Enoch Lin came from behind to beat Arnau Anton Garcia 3-6, 6-2, 10-6. Brady Friesen beat Tancredi Alfano 6-4, 6-4, and Justin Yuan was a straight-set winner over Uvan Patel 6-4, 6-3.

The Dukes claimed three of the four doubles matches, with Bucknell's lone win coming in a tiebreaker from Alapi and Jovan Morales, 7-6 (7-5).

In the other set of matches, Carnegie Mellon won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles matches against Edinboro. Bucknell will face players from Carnegie Mellon on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
