Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Play with Six More Wins at Carousel Classic

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's tennis squad wrapped up its opening weekend of the season with a third straight winning day the Carousel Classic, hosted by Binghamton at Recreation Park. The three-day event included plenty of matches for the Bison, Bearcats, and Buffalo, along with a youth clinic with players from all teams involved.
The Bison were especially strong in doubles this weekend. With the pairings shuffled throughout, Bucknell won all three of its doubles matches on Sunday to get to 12-3 on the weekend. Coach Jason Cohen put together two all-freshmen tandems on the final day, and both came away victorious against Binghamton foes. Enoch Lin and Vlad Dombrovskyi routed Giannis Sakkas and Radu Filipache 6-1, and Brady Friesen and Jovan Morales topped Harry Liao and Filipe Costa 6-4. The third win came from junior Nelson Alapi and sophomore Tyler Bush, 6-2 over Binghamton's Vonn Dudek and Milan Icboyun.
Bucknell won 3 of 5 singles matches on Sunday to finish 11-8 on the weekend. Freshman Lin, Dombrovskyi, and Friesen all won in straight sets against Binghamton, while Morales and Yuan dropped close contests. Morales won the first set from Chase Zhao of Buffalo, but ended up falling in a third-set tiebreaker. Yuan extended Sakkas to a tiebreaker in the opening set before Sakkas took the second 6-4.
Next up for the Bison is a trip to Pittsburgh for Carnegie Mellon's fall tournament Sept. 25-27.
