LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bison rowing team is off to Worcester, Mass., on Sunday for the IRA Women's Eastern Sprints, one of the largest regattas in the northeast. Bucknell will have three eights and a four in action on Lake Quinsigamond.
This will be Bucknell's final official races until the Patriot League Championships in two weeks on the Cooper River in New Jersey.
Â
It has been an outstanding spring for Bucknell's Varsity Eight, which has claimed two Patriot League Boat of the Week honors. The most recent came two weeks ago after the Bison 1V8+ went 2-0 against Delaware and Rhode Island at the Cornell Double Duals in Ithaca, N.Y. Earlier in the year, Bucknell's top boat swept Drexel and George Washington in Philadelphia, and took bronze medals in a 40-boat field at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River.
Â
This week, the Varsity Eight will compete in the second of three morning heats, going up against Rutgers, Radcliffe, Cornell, and Connecticut at 9 a.m. The first heat features Brown, Boston University, Northeastern, Boston College, and Temple. Heat No. 3 has Columbia, Dartmouth, UMass, Rhode Island, and Holy Cross.
Â
Bucknell's Varsity Four goes off at 10:10 a.m., in the first heat along with Brown, Boston University, Northeastern, and Temple. The 2V8+ rows at 9:40 a.m. against Brown, Columbia, Northeastern, and UMass, and the 3V8+ races in the first of two six-boat heats at 10:40 a.m. against Brown, Columbia, Radcliffe, Cornell, Rhode Island, and UConn.
Â
All events will have three levels of afternoon finals.
