Bison Rowers Compete at Women’s Sprints, Now Prep for Patriot League Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bucknell rowing team had four boats in action at the 51st edition of the Eastern Women's Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond. In their final competition before the Patriot League Championships, the Bison went head-to-head against many of the top programs in the northeast, including five who are ranked in the CRCA Coaches Poll national top-25.
Bucknell's Varsity Eight placed fourth in the second of three morning heats, besting UConn and trailing Rutgers, Radcliffe, and Cornell. The time of 6:30.950 was good for a spot in the Petite Final, where the Bison finished third out of six teams. Bucknell was less than three seconds behind Northeastern and only a few seats in back of runner-up UMass. Rhode Island, Cornell, and Temple rounded out the group. Brown won the Grand Final in a blazing 6:12.109, more than three seconds ahead of second-place Columbia.
The Bison Second Varsity Eight was fifth in its morning heat behind Brown, Northeastern, Columbia, and UMass. Bucknell came back in the afternoon to beat Holy Cross and UConn in a close race in the Third Level Final.
The Third Varsity Eight took seventh in its heat behind Columbia, Radcliffe, Cornell, UConn, Brown, and Rhode Island. The Bison then easily outdistanced Temple in the Third Level Final.
Bucknell's Varsity Four took fifth in its heat, behind Boston University, Brown, Northeastern, and Temple, and then placed third in the Third Level Final behind Rhode Island and Holy Cross.
Next up are the Patriot League Championships on Friday, May 15 on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
