LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Amar Tahirovic captured his 10th career Patriot League Player of the Week citation, extending his league record, after posting two more wins last Saturday at first-place Lehigh.
Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas started the day with a 6-3 win over Sean Jaeger and Alex Van Lumich at No. 1 doubles. Tahirovic later downed Jaeger 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to move within one of Bucknell's all-time record. He now has 111 career singles wins, one shy of Nick Bybel's record of 112.
Tahirovic is 28-7 in singles this season, including a 17-3 mark at No. 1 in dual matches. He also won his team-high 23rd doubles match on Saturday against only six losses.
The Bison finished the regular season with an 11-11 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the Patriot League. The defending champs have battled injuries this spring and will be seeded fifth at this week's Patriot League Championship. Bucknell will take on No. 4 seed Boston University in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 11 a.m. Tournament host Lehigh claimed the top seed and will face the winner of the first-round match between No. 8 Holy Cross and No. 9 Lafayette. The other quarterfinals will feature No. 3 Army against No. 6 Loyola, and No. 2 Navy taking on No. 7 Colgate.
The Bison and Terriers have not met since 2024, a 4-2 Boston University win in Lewisburg. Bucknell leads the all-time series 7-5, but the Terriers have won the last two head-to-head clashes. The two teams did have a couple of matches at the Patriot League qualifying tournament for the ITA Conference Masters back in October. Tahirovic beat Jakob Esterowitz 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals of the singles bracket, and Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald downed Esterowitz and Payton Jim On 8-5 in the doubles final.
Boston University enters the postseason 7-12 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League. The Terriers beat Colgate (4-3), Loyola (4-1), and Holy Cross (4-2) and dropped matches to Navy (7-0), Lehigh (4-0), and Army (4-0).
