Tahirovic Ties Record with 112th Career Singles Win as Bison Roll Past Boston U. in PL Quarterfinals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Amar Tahirovic handily won his 112th career singles match to tie Nick Bybel's school record as the men's tennis team rolled past Boston University 4-1 in the Patriot League quarterfinals at the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts in Bethlehem.
Tahirovic was a two-time winner after a win with Adam Stavrakas at No. 1 doubles. The senior duo jumped to a big 5-1 lead before Andrew Andea and Jakkob Esterowitz fought back to even the match 5-5. Tahirovic and Stavrakas won the next two games to earn the win.
Brendan McDonald and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega defeated Ege Topkoc and Adrian Quiros Monterrey 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for Bucknell. The duo took a 2-0 lead off the bat and maintained the advantage to a 6-4 victory.
Tahirovic rolled past Andea 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Andea led 3-2 in the first set before Tahirovic won four of the next five games to take the set. The senior dominated the second set to earn his record-tying win.
McDonald and Will Robinson rattled off dominant wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. McDonald took down Topkoc 6-1, 6-3 and Robinson took home the clinching point defeating Jaydon Barki 6-0, 6-1.
Boston University's lone point came from Payton Jim On over Liam Kilmer at No. 4 singles.
Bucknell is set to take on top-seeded Lehigh on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Patriot League semifinals. The Mountains Hawks defeated the Bison 4-3 in a tight match just a week ago.
