EASTON, Pa.- Bucknell (6-28-1, 3-6 Patriot League) dropped the rubber match 6-2 to Lafayette (10-27, 3-6 Patriot League) on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards scored four runs in the opening stanza and rode the momentum to the series victory.Â
Avery Powers started the game and lasted one inning. An error and misfortune dogged the Bison starter. After obtaining the first out, Powers yielded a walk and Shea Malone misplayed a single, placing runners at second and third. A second walk loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly scored the first run. A single tallied the second run. Malone lost a routine fly and the ball fell in for a double, scoring two more Leopards.Â
Sarah Zimmerman entered the circle in the second inning. A leadoff walk proved poisonous. The Leopard advanced to second on a grounder, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch.Â
Bucknell countered with two runs in the third inning. Reagan Powell singled and Sarah Zimmerman and Haley Speicher hit back-to-back fielder's choices. Barbara Jo Coppola, the rookie phenom, strolled to the plate and deposited a home run over the left field fence.Â
Lafayette added an insurance run in the sixth inning. A single and a wild pitch allowed a double to score the run.Â
The Bison could not rally and Lafayette clinched the series win.Â
