WINTER PARK, Fla. – Amar Tahirovic and Liam Kilmer won tough singles matches at the top of the lineup, but the Bucknell men's tennis squad dropped a 5-2 verdict at Division II No. 20 Rollins on Monday night at the Tennis & Golf Center. The Bison fell to 7-6 on the season, while the Tars improved to 7-1, with their only loss coming by a 4-3 count to No. 1 Barry on Saturday.
Tahirovic won his 11th straight singles match and improved to 22-5 on the season with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over No. 24 Lawson Prather at No. 1 singles. Earlier in the day, Prather was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week after his 6-4, 6-4 win over the nation's No. 1 Division II player in Barry's Yan Kodjoed. These were only the third and fourth dropped sets of the season for Prather.
Kilmer improved to 14-6 on the spring with a three-set win over Richard Stoiberer at No. 2 singles. Stoiberer, whose only other loss this spring came against a top-20 player from Barry, won the first set 6-4, but Kilmer dominated the rest of the way, taking the next two sets 6-0 and 6-3.
Bucknell's two points came after the Tars had already secured the team win, however, as the hosts captured straight-set wins in the 3-6 spots.
Rollins also captured the doubles point with 6-3 verdicts at 2 and 3. Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald had a 5-2 lead at No. 1 when the point was clinched.
Bucknell will now get a few days on the practice courts before facing Stetson on Friday and Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.
