Bucknell at a Glance
- The Bison head to the Sunshine State on Spring Break week for three matches against Florida competition. Bucknell will face Rollins, the 20th-ranked team in Division II on Monday, with matches against Atlantic Sun members Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast later in the week.
- The Bison are now 7-5 on the spring after splitting a pair of matches last week. They handled Duquesne 6-1 at home on Saturday before falling at NJIT 5-2 on Sunday. Unseasonably warm temperatures in Lewisburg allowed the Bison and Dukes to play outdoors for the first time this spring.
- Bucknell won the doubles point in both matches last week after failing to do so in each of the previous three. The Bison have now taken the point in seven of the 12 spring contests.
- Amar Tahirovic enjoyed another 4-0 week, and he extended his league record with his ninth career Patriot League Player of the Week awards on Tuesday. Both singles victories against Duquesne and NJIT came in straight sets, and he has now won 10 straight matches to get to 21-5 on the season. He has dropped only one set in that stretch. In doubles, Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald teamed up to win a pair of 6-2 verdicts. The Bison duo is now 16-6 together this season, and Tahirovic's personal doubles record improved to 17-6.
- Tahirovic is now 104-23 in singles and 85-40 in doubles in his career. The 189 combined wins are just three shy of Nick Bybel's school record.
- Liam Kilmer is second on the team with 13 wins (13-6), including a 6-2 mark at No. 2 singles, where he has stepped in for injured All-Patriot Leaguer Adam Stavrakas. Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega (7-4) and Will Robinson (8-3) also have strong records in spring dual-match play.
- Tahirovic and McDonald came one win away from an NCAA doubles bid with a big run at the ITA Conference Masters in San Diego. They won the Patriot League qualifier and then beat pairs from Boise State, UC Santa Barbara and Presbyterian to reach the semifinals. McDonald was honored with the ITA Sportsmanship Award at that event.
- Tahirovic also represented the Patriot League in singles at the ITA Conference Masters, where he beat reigning Big East Player of the Year Alejandro Gandini of DePaul in the first round before falling to Martin Birisiouk of N.C. State in three sets in the round of 16. Earlier in the fall, he played in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., where he dropped tight matches to opponents from TCU and Baylor, and he won twice in the main draw at the ITA Northeast Regional at Princeton.
- Bucknell and Rollins will be meeting for just the second time, with the first coming all the way back in 1949. Rollins won that one 7-2 in Lewisburg.
- The Tars are 6-0 this spring and 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. They will host No. 1 Barry on Saturday before the Bison come to Winter Park on Monday.
- Rollins has two singles players in the ITA rankings in No. 24 Lawson Prather (4-1) and No. 69 Nicolas De Giacomo (5-0). Prather plays in the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while De Giacomo has played 3 and 4 this spring. No. 2 man Richard Stoiberer is 6-0.
- The Tars have beaten two ranked opponents thus far in No. 10 Florida Southern (5-2) and No. 18 Wingate (4-0).
- Bucknell is 0-4 all-time against the Hatters, with the last meeting a 7-0 Stetson win in Orlando in 2005. In fact, all four previous meetings have been 7-0 results.
- The Hatters improved to 5-4 on the season with a 4-3 win at Coastal Carolina on Wednesday. Stetson found success at the top of the lineup, winning at 1 and 2 doubles and 1, 2, and 3 singles. No. 1 man Christian Kuehne won a three-setter to clinch it.
- Stetson also has two wins over Millennia Atlantic and one each against Georgia State and Air Force. The Hatters host Georgia Southern on Sunday.
- Bucknell is 0-2 all-time against FGCU, falling 5-2 in 2009 and 6-1 in 2023.
- The Eagles are off to a 5-8 start this spring but have won four in a row. The wins have come against Oral Roberts (4-1), Elon (4-2), UNC Greensboro (4-2), Queens (4-0), and Mercer (4-3).
- In their last match against Mercer, the Eagles dropped the doubles point but came back to win at 3-6 singles.
- Before the Bison visit, FGCU will host No. 68 Utah State this Sunday and then take on Fordham at The X Invitational in Miami on Thursday.
- The three matches in Florida will lead into the start of Patriot League play. The first league match will be at Loyola on March 21.
