Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Downs Colgate 12-10 in Christy

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell earned its first Patriot League win of the season against Colgate 12-10 in Lewisburg on Saturday night. After Colgate tied the game at 10 in the fourth quarter, Megan Krestinski notched the game-winning goal with 6:15 left to go before Caleigh Cummiskey made it a two-goal lead. Anna Cornell also came up with a caused turnover with under a minute to go to officially secure the win.
Krestinski led the Bison with five points on a team-high four goals and one assist. The senior got her 100th goal and 150th point in the conference win.
Caleigh Cummiskey was the other Bison to score multiple goals with two. Caroline Sheridan led the team in assists with two of their four.
Colgate had a secure hold on the draw as it had 16 draw controls to Bucknell's eight, but the Bison made up for the deficit with caused turnovers, ground balls and saves. Bucknell had 11 caused turnovers to Colgate's weight with Anna Cornell leading the charge with three. Bucknell had 26 ground balls to Colgate's 12.
Colgate also recorded more turnovers than Bucknell to aid in helping the draw control deficit. The Raiders had 18 turnovers to the Bison's 13.
Bella Crowley notched seven saves on the evening for the Bison, with most of the saves coming in big moments.
Both teams went 18-for-19 on the clear.
The first quarter of play began with a scoring filled first seven minutes with the Bison coming out on top 4-3 before the consistent offensive flow slowed down. Bucknell was able to make a few key stops while also finding the back of the net twice more to hold a 6-3 lead. The second quarter was a much more defensively based 15 minutes as both goalies stood tall and came up with some big saves to keep scoring at minimum. The Bison maintained its lead 8-6 at halftime, with there only being five goals between the two teams. The defense continued to shine across the board in the third quarter, with Bella Crowley making a big save at the end to keep Bucknell up by two. The Raiders tied the game up in the fourth, but a couple of late goals and caused turnovers in favor of the Bison secured the victory.
Megan Krestinski opened the game with a nice move and finish for an unassisted goal to give Bucknell a 1-0 lead one minute into the game. Colgate answered with a 2-0 scoring run thanks to winning consecutive draw controls. The Bison then kicked it up a notch as they forced a turnover and Regan Sansiviero took it coast to coast to tie the game at 2-2. Bucknell then extended its scoring run to 3-0 off of consecutive goals from Krestinski and Caleigh Cummiskey. The Raiders broke Bucknell's scoring run with a goal from Sarah Marcovici to make it a one goal game with 8:30 left in the first. After a scoring filled first couple of minutes, the next four went scoreless before Krestinski got her first quarter hattrick to extend the Bison lead to two at the media timeout. Out of the break, Caroline Sheridan found the next goal to give Bucknell a three goal cushion with 2:29 left in the first, which would end up being the final goal of the quarter.
Colgate opened the second quarter with a quick goal from Bishara, but a couple of scoreless minutes later, Alex Macutek found her first of the game to make it 7-4 in favor of the Bison. Out of the media timeout, Colgate immediately scored on a man-up opportunity to close the gap to two before six and a half minutes of the game went scoreless as both the defensive and goalie efforts intensified. Estella Geller found her second goal of the season to break the drought and give Bucknell an 8-5 lead with 1:13 left in the quarter, but Colgate's Bishara got her fourth of the game to make it a two goal game at half.
The Bison opened the second quarter with a 2-0 scoring run in the first five minutes as Katie Browne and Katie Powers each found the back of the net. After about 10 scoreless minutes, Bishara yet again scored for the Raiders to make it a three goal game at the media timeout with 2:35 left in the third. Out of the break, Colgate made it a 2-0 run to close its deficit back to two on a man-up goal. The Raiders had an opportunity to cut the deficit to one, but Bella Crowley came up with a big save to end the quarter.
The fourth quarter opened with Colgate playing off of its third quarter momentum and extending its scoring run to five with back to back goals from McMahon and Walsh, tying the game at 10. Madison Stevens came up with a couple of big saves for the Raiders in that stretch to allow them to make it even at 10 with 8:27 remaining in regulation. Krestinski then sent a rocket of shot into the back of the net on a man-up opportunity to re-gain the lead for Bucknell. A couple of minutes later, Cummiskey got another one to give the Bison some insurance with 3:49 left to play, forcing Colgate to take a timeout. The next three minutes went scoreless with two Colgate timeouts before Anna Cornell came up with a major caused turnover with 37.9 seconds to go. After a Bucknell timeout, Colgate pulled its goalie but the extra defender wouldn't be enough as the Bison would hold on for the two goal home victory.
Bucknell will next take to the road on Saturday, March 28 at noon to face Lehigh.
