BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bucknell men's tennis team started Patriot League action with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Loyola on Saturday at the McClure Tennis Center. The Bison claimed all three doubles matches and won all six singles tilts in straight sets while leveling their season record at 8-8.
After tying Nick Bybel's Bucknell's career record for combined singles and doubles wins last week at Florida Gulf Coast, Amar Tahirovic grabbed the mark all to himself with two more wins against the Greyhounds. He teamed with Brendan McDonald for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and then bested Petter Hagen 6-2, 6-4 at first singles, giving him 194 all-time victories.
Will Robinson and Nelson Alapi secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 2, and Adam Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega came back to win in a tiebreaker on Court 3.
Bucknell quickly clinched the result with Tahirovic's singles win, along with a 6-0, 6-1 win from Stavrakas at No. 3 and a 6-1, 6-2 verdict from Bain at No. 4. Liam Kilmer won his match 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, and at the bottom of the lineup McDonald (6-2, 6-1) and Robinson (7-5, 6-1) tacked on two more straight-set wins.
The Bison won their 17th straight dual match against Loyola and now will turn right around and host Saint Francis on Sunday. Note the start time for that contest has been moved up to noon with rain in the forecast later in the day.
