LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over Saint Francis on Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Courts, capping off a dominant weekend that started with Saturday's 7-0 sweep of Loyola in the Patriot League opener.
Adam Stavrakas and Brendan McDonald both won twice on Sunday as the Bison improved to 9-8 on the season. Regular No. 1 player Amar Tahirovic got the day off, so Bucknell's doubles pairings were shuffled. Stavrakas and Will Robinson clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 2 after the Bison and Red Flash had split the first two matches. McDonald and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega opened the day with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, but Blake Lorenzo and Beau Welker evened things up with a 6-3 verdict on Court 3.
Liam Kilmer led the charge in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kevin Titus Suresh at No. 1. Stavrakas beat Lorenzo 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, and McDonald was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Mario Beckles at No. 4. At the bottom of the lineup, Nelson Alapi bested Welker 6-4, 6-2, and Shiv Singh waltzed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Noah Potts.
Saint Francis' lone point came from Jonah Ng at No. 3 singles.
The Bison are back in action next Saturday with a big Patriot League home matchup with Army. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
