Bucknell at a Glance
- After starting Patriot League play with two straight road games, the Bison return home on Saturday to face defending-champion Colgate at noon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. One of Bucknell's best wins last season was a wild 18-17 thriller over the 15th-ranked Raiders in Hamilton, N.Y. Colgate went on to beat Lehigh, Army, and Boston University to claim the Patriot League Tournament title.
- Bucknell opened league play with a 12-11 win at Lehigh, and the Bison seemed to be looking good for a 2-0 start after building an 8-5 halftime lead at Navy last week. But the Midshipmen scored the first nine goals of the second half on the way to a 16-12 victory.
- We're still very early in the league calendar, but only three unbeaten teams remain: Boston University (2-0), Lafayette (1-0), and Loyola (1-0). Bucknell is one of four teams at 1-1, with Lehigh and Colgate off to 0-2 starts.
- Bucknell is one of six teams receiving votes in this week's USILA Coaches' Poll. Army (13) and Boston University (20) are both ranked in the top 20, and Loyola, Navy, Lafayette, and Bucknell are also getting votes.
- The Bison come in ranked fourth in the league in scoring at 12.7 goals per game and third in goals-against at 10.14. Colgate allows the most goals in the league (14.0) and is eighth in scoring (10.7).
- Michael Meyer has 23 goals through seven games, one shy of Loyola's Mason Cook and Lafayette's Benjamin Dibattista for the Patriot League lead. Meyer is on a tear to start his senior season, with at least three goals in six of the seven games, including each of the last five. Meyer logged six goals and an assist at Robert Morris, and he notched three goals and two assists at Navy last week. Meyer ranks fourth in the PL in goals per game (3.29) and seventh in points per game (4.14).
- Among the NCAA leaders, Meyer is 10th nationally in goals per game, 34th in points per game, and fifth in man-up goals with four.
- Bucknell has six double-digit point-producers thus far. Sean Berrigan (11-9-20) started league play with a five-point (2G/3A) afternoon at Lehigh, including the assist on Will Hopkins' game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter. Berrigan is already just one shy of his career high of 21 points, set in each of his first two seasons.
- Likewise, Luke Brunner (12-5-17) already within three points of his career high of 20, set last season. Preseason All-Patriot League selection Peter Grandolfo (12-4-16), Sean Murray (7-8-15), and Owen Kovacs (10-4-14) have also reached double figures.
- Colin McLoy earned his first career Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week award on March 2. McLoy ranks fourth in the league and 23rd nationally in faceoff percentage (.574, 70-122). The junior entered the season at 44.6 percent for his career, but he has been outstanding thus far. Ohio State transfer Zach Hepworth (.534, 31-58) has also been solid, and as a team Bucknell ranks 20th nationally at 56.3%.
- Senior defenseman Will Pickering had a big day at Lehigh, scooping five ground balls and breaking up as pass on the team's final defensive possession with the Bison protecting a one-goal lead. Pickering is in his fourth year as a starting close defensemen, and he is joined by a pair of junior first-time starters in Corbin Lukanski and Caleb Lewis.
- Bucknell has two senior goalies in Jaz Zanelli (3-1, 8.92 GAA, .390 SV%) and Luke Renaud (2-1, 11.73 GAA, .443 SV%). Zanelli started the first five games of the season, and Renaud got the call in the last two.
- The Bison have done a solid job protecting the ball and rank 19th nationally in fewest turnovers per game at 14.9.
- The St. Bonaventure win on Feb. 6 was the 400th in program history. The team's inaugural season came in 1968.
- Frank Fedorjaka is in his 21st season as head coach at Bucknell, and he is joined on the staff by defensive coordinator Kyle Gallagher, offensive coordinator Matt Kerwick, and new assistant coach Jackson Mumford.
- The Raiders went 10-8 overall and 4-4 in the Patriot League before getting hot in the postseason and winning their first league title in 10 years. Colgate lost 10 starters from that championship team, however, and is 1-5 to start the 2026 campaign.
- Three of Colgate's five losses are to ranked teams in No. 14 Penn State (18-14), No. 13 Virginia (19-14), and No. 14 Harvard (17-8). In Patriot League play, the Raiders have dropped tight contests to Loyola (13-11) and Holy Cross (11-10).
- Colgate's lone win was a 7-6 goalie battle over Hobart at home on Feb. 14. Andrew Lehrman made 21 saves that day with only six goals conceded. Lehrman has started every game this season and has a 14.04 GAA and .494 save percentage.
- Freddy Fowler (10-10-20), Casey Quinson (16-1-17), and Hunter Drouin (8-6-14) are the team's top point-producers. Fowler had a five-point (3-2) day at Virginia and is coming off a three-assist showing at Holy Cross last week. Quinson, a former teammate of Bucknell's Patrick Mullen at Brunswick School, has scored in every game this season with a high of four against Virginia and Loyola.
- Defenseman John Carrabine leads the team in caused turnovers (10) and ground balls (31), and he also has three goals on the season. He logged eight ground ball and four caused turnovers against Loyola and had 10 GBs at Virginia.
- Fischer Burke (.489, 45-92) and Kyle Rummel (.465, 33-71) are the team's top faceoff men.
- The Raiders have been excellent on man-up opportunities this season, converting 12 of 23. Bucknell did not concede an EMO to Navy last week.
- Bucknell has a 26-20 lead in an all-time series that dates back to 1979.
- Bucknell has won five of the last seven meetings, but both of Colgate's wins in that span came in Lewisburg, including a 17-4 verdict here in 2024.
- The Bison and Raiders have met six times in the Patriot League Tournament. Colgate won five of those, but Bucknell's triumph was a 10-3 rout in the 2011 championship game. These two teams also squared off in the 2008 final at West Point, with Colgate winning 13-9.
- Last year's game in Hamilton was a wild ride, as the Bison held off the 15th-ranked Raiders 18-17 at Andy Kerr Stadium. On a day when the two teams combined for 35 goals, it was goalie Luke Renaud who came up with two critical saves in the final minute to preserve the victory for the Bison. Michael Meyer recorded five goals and five assists for a career-best 10-point day. Connor Davis tallied three goals and four assists, and Luke Brunner recorded a natural hat trick in the third quarter to help the Bison erase a four-goal deficit. Meyer, who was huge with three goals in the fourth quarter, tied the game at 17-17 with 5:01 to play, and then Davis won it exactly one minute later. Rory (6) and Liam (4) Connor combined for 10 of Colgate's 17 goals. Rory also had five assists to give him 11 points on the day. The stat sheet was nearly dead even with narrow margins in shots (45-45), faceoffs (19-18 Bucknell), and turnovers (11-10 Bucknell).
- Bucknell heads back on the road next Saturday, March 21 to face Loyola. The Greyhounds have won four straight after an 0-2 start, including a 13-11 PL win over Colgate. They host Lehigh this Saturday looking to make it five in a row.
- The Bison will be looking to snap a seven-game series losing streak, but the last three meetings have been decided by just four goals. Loyola won 12-11 in overtime in Lewisburg last season.
