SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega provided the clinching point with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles, lifting the Bucknell men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center. On the heels of Saturday's 7-0 sweep of Mercyhurst, the Bison won their second straight and improved to 4-2 on the season. Temple dropped to 0-2 after falling to Penn State last week.
Bucknell had to fight from behind after Temple took the doubles point with wins in the top two spots. The Bison came back to win five of the six singles matches, with the lone loss coming in a third-set tiebreaker.
Playing on split courts with the women's match taking place at the same time, the top of the lineup set the tone, with Amar Tahirovic, Liam Kilmer, and Brendan McDonald all claiming straight-set wins. When the 4-5-6 group took the courts, Bain quickly clinched the win for Bucknell with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lance Cochrane at No. 5. Will Robinson followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Pranav Nemani at No. 6.
Temple's lone singles win came from Oliver Aguilar at No. 4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) over freshman Tyler Bush.
Tahirovic and Robinson both extended their singles winning streaks to five, and Tahirovic improved to a team-best 16-5 on the season.
Bucknell has two more home matches next week. The Bison host Georgetown on Friday at 2 p.m. and Johns Hopkins on Sunday at 1 p.m.
