SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Amar Tahirovic won his 100th career singles match, and he joined Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega and Liam Kilmer as two-time winners as the Bucknell men's tennis team dispatched Georgetown 5-2 on Friday at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Bison had been 2-11 all-time with five straight losses against the Hoyas, with the wins coming in 1937 and 1988.
Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald started the afternoon win an 18-minute, 6-1 win over Arthur O'Sullivan and Burke Pablo at first doubles. The Georgetown pair held serve to start the match, and then the Bison quickly took the next six games. McDonald is nearing a milestone of his own, as his 86 career doubles wins are now just one shy of Ryan Sandburg's team record.
With the Bison trailing 5-2 at No. 2 doubles, Bain and Kilmer recorded a crucial 6-4 win over Henry Williams and Jacob Mann on Court 3 to clinch the point. The Bucknell tandem picked up a critical service break at 4-all and then held to win it.
Tahirovic and Kilmer at the top of the lineup and Bain and Will Robinson at the bottom all won their singles matches in straight sets. Kilmer was first off at No. 2, routing James O'Sullivan 6-3, 6-0. Bain followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Sahil Morey at No. 5, and Robinson clinched the team verdict with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cyrus Robinson at No. 6.
Tahirovic's 100th singles victory came at the hands of Arthur O'Sullivan at No. 1 by a 7-5, 6-4 count. He joins Nick Bybel as the only Bucknell players to reach the 100-win milestone. Bybel won 112 matches from 2012-16.
Georgetown's lone wins came from Joshua Lamm-Bocharov and Jacob Mann, both in third-set super tiebreakers in the middle of the order.
Bucknell returns to action on Sunday at home against Johns Hopkins, the No. 11 team in the ITA Division III rankings.
