Bucknell at a Glance
- More schedule changes are in order, but the Bison will finally get a chance to play on their home field when St. Bonaventure comes to town on Friday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up a day due to the forecast of high temperatures in the mid-teens.
- Last week's season opener against Manhattan was relocated to Penn State's Holuba Hall, and Bucknell came away with a convincing 14-8 victory. The Bison trailed 3-2 before flipping the game with a three-goal flurry in the final 1:40 of the first quarter.
- Eight different Bison scored goals, led by hat tricks from Michael Meyer and Peter Grandolfo. Owen Kovacs (2-1-3), Luke Brunner (1-2-3), Sean Berrigan (1-2-3), and Will Hopkins (1-2-3) also had three-point games, and Anthony Panetti recorded a pair of goals. Bucknell outshot the Jaspers 45-24.
- Zach Hepworth made quite a Bison debut at the faceoff X. The Ohio State transfer won nine of his first 11 before finishing 17-for-23 with four ground balls.
- Bucknell was outstanding defensively throughout much of the night, posting two separate 15-minute shutout stints. Will Pickering, Caleb Lewis, and Corbin Lukanski started on close defense, and LSM John Young was active as usual with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. The Bison forced 16 Manhattan miscues in the game.
- Jaz Zanelli started in goal and made five saves.
- Bucknell returned the bulk of its contributing group from a year ago. Seven of the nine players who recorded double-digit points last season are back, along with three experienced goalies, two starting defensemen, the top long- and short-stick defensive midfielders, and the team's No. 1 returning faceoff man.
- Grandolfo was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. He is one of three returning Second Team All-PL honorees, along with Hopkins and Meyer.
- Frank Fedorjaka is in his 21st season as head coach at Bucknell, and he is joined on the staff by defensive coordinator Kyle Gallagher, offensive coordinator Matt Kerwick, and new assistant coach Jackson Mumford.
- The Bonnies are making their 2026 season debut after last week's game at VMI was postponed.
- St. Bonaventure went 6-10 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10 last season. Three of their losses came by one goal, and three others came against ranked opponents.
- Brendan Storrier is in his first season as head coach at St. Bonaventure. Storrier was previously in charge at Division II power Limestone, which went 66-13 with four NCAA appearances in the last four years.
- The Bonnies lost their top five point-scorers from last season. The top returning scorer is Patrick Shanahan, who tallied 16 goals and six assists for 22 points.
- St. Bonaventure returns its starting goalie in sophomore Isaac Farmer, who earned A10 All-Rookie Team honors last season. He posted a .515 save percentage in 16 appearances, and his 173 saves were second-most in the conference.
- These two teams met for the first time last season, and the Bison jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the way to a 21-8 win in Olean, N.Y.
- Connor Davis paced Bucknell with five goals, and Michael Meyer logged four goals and two assists. Luke Brunner also recorded a hat trick, and Sean Berrigan handed out three assists. Eight different players scored goals for the Bonnies. Luke Renaud (8) and Parker Day (4) combined for 12 saves for Bucknell, while Isaac Farmer stopped 14 shots for St. Bonaventure. Bucknell launched a whopping 59 shots in the game and committed only 10 turnovers while forcing 21.
- Bucknell is back in action next Friday at Robert Morris at 1 p.m.
