Water Polo Defeated by Two Ranked Foes

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (7-4, 1-2 CWPA) faced two ranked conference on Saturday in #7 Harvard (11-0, 2-0 CWPA) and #12 Princeton (11-0, 2-0 CWPA) and fell 14-8 to the Crimson and 17-7 to the Tigers. The Bison celebrated Senior Day before the Princeton match and honored four seniors: Malli Challa, Gwen Kallmeyer, Anna Plante, and Bella Schraa.Â

The Crimson scored seven goals in the first quarter and used the differential to coast to a relatively stress-free 14-8 victory, despite both teams tallying seven goals each over the final three period.Â
The Bison scored one goal in the opening quarter when Olivia Hopper scored one of her two cage-finders.Â
Bucknell slowed down Harvard's offense in the second period, holding the Crimson to one score. Addison Wedding added a goal for the Bison.Â
The Orange & Blue trailed 9-3 when a 3-0 Bucknell run suddenly started to create nervousness in the Harvard ranks. Olivia Garcia tallied back-to-back goals before Britta Coultas added a tally.Â
The spark vanished after Harvard called a timeout and regrouped. The Crimson scored two quick goals to douse any comeback hopes.Â
The game ended 14-8 after Hayden Hedstrom supplied the final score.Â
Princeton Recap
The Bison honored their four seniors before the game and used the emotion generated from the ceremony to keep pace with the Tigers for a quarter. Princeton outscored Bucknell 6-0 in the second period to firmly escape any possible upset.Â
Bucknell scored first when Olivia Hopper found the net 25 seconds into the game. Princeton responded with a 3-0 run. Freshmen Wedding and Lin Naraoka tied the game up with back-to-back goals. The Tigers scored a goal before the period ended to grab the lead.Â
The second quarter proved Bucknell's Waterloo. Princeton asserted its dominance and scored six goals, extending its stretch to 7-0.Â
The Orange & Blue tallied two goals in the third and fourth quarter but Princeton added seven more tallies for the comfortable win. Malli Challa scored twice in the second half to send the bench into joyous eruption. Kallmeyer added a goal in the final period.Â
