UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Bucknell women's lacrosse fell to 2-1 on the season with a 21-9 loss to Penn State in University Park on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions utilized an 22-10 draw control differential to find more opportunities throughout the game and secure the win.
The nine Bison goals scored ties Bucknell's highest number of goals scored against Penn State in program history. Caleigh Cummiskey led the Bison in scoring with a hat trick in the second half of play. Caroline Sheridan and Megan Kresitinski notched two goals apiece and Katie Browne and Alex Macutek rounded out Bucknell's scoring with one each. Only three of Bucknell's nine goals were assisted with the assists coming from Krestinski, Sheridan and Browne.
Cat Dineen led the Bison in ground balls with four. The Bison only recorded four caused turnovers on the afternoon compared to the Nittany Lions nine. Jess Leon, Estella Geller, Regan Sansiviero and Juliana Pagano had the four caused turnovers for the Bison.
While the Nittany Lions out-paced the Bison on the draw 22-10, Krestinski led Bucknell with four draw controls and Macutek followed closely behind with three. Kelly led Penn State in draw controls with 15.
Turnovers between the two teams were close with Penn State recording eight to Bucknell's 10.

The first quarter opened with about a minute-and-a-half of scoreless play before Penn State strung together four unanswered goals. The first of the game came from a free-position goal from Delaney Radin and then 25 seconds later, Rocquette Allen made it 2-0. Kelly Mackinnet and Maddie Greco found the next two goals before Bucknell got on the board. Megan Krestinki opened the scoring for the Bison as she juked a defender with a spin move and buried one in the back of the net. Penn State then converted their second of two free-position shots into a goal, this time it was Erika Ho. Alex Macutek then closed Bucknell's deficit to three as she found her first goal since the season opener. The Nittany Lions got the next two, including their third free-position goal of the game. With 2:20 left in the first quarter, Caroline Sheridan found an opening to cut and score a man-up goal off of a Lucy Connors assist, but Penn State got the final word of the first as Allen scored her second goal of the game with 19 seconds left to give the Nittany Lions an 8-3.
Penn State opened the second much like the first with five unanswered goals taking the game into its under-10 media timeout. Krestinski broke up the Nittany Lion scoring with a rocket of a shot to bring the deficit back to single digits, but Penn State then scored another a little over a minute later to make it 14-4 with 3:29 remaining. With 40 seconds left in the half, Sheridan buried a free-position goal to make it 14-5 at halftime.
The third quarter opened with three minutes of scoreless play before the Nittany Lions notched five more goals, including Allen's fourth and fifth of the game, to extend their lead to 19-5 with 4:46 remaining in the third. The Bison then went on a 2-0 scoring run to end the quarter with goals from Katie Browne and Caleigh Cummiskey to cut the deficit to 12 at the end of the third.
Cummiskey opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals to give her three consecutive for a late-game hattrick and cut Bucknell's deficit to 10, but Penn State answered with a free-position goal before the media timeout with just over six minutes remaining in regulation. Out of the break, three minutes went scoreless before Hannah Hoyt found a goal for Penn State, which would end up being the final score of the game as the Nittany Lions defeated Bucknell 21-9.
