LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team fell 6-3 on opening day to Charleston Southern in the first of a three-game series on Friday evening at Nielson Field at CSU Ballpark.
Michael Chiaravallo's pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning gave the Bison a 3-2 lead, but Charleston Southern answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and held on to win 6-3.
Bucknell (0-1) held three different leads in the game, but Charleston Southern (1-0) had the answer each time. The Bison had more hits in the game, but the Buccaneers drew 10 walks and had three hit-batters. The Bison also had three errors in the game, and all of CSU's runs were unearned.Â
Jonathan Adelmann made his third career start and his first since 2024 in his new role. He allowed just one hit, but his pitch count ran high as he walked six batters. He fanned five batters in four innings, and both runs he allowed were unearned.
Michael Trommer and Michael Chiaravallo both homered in their first at-bats of the season. Trommer had a hit in each of his first two at-bats on a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Zac Selfon notched his first hit in Orange and Blue to round out Bucknell's four hits.

The Bison jumped back in the lead, scoring on a CSU error in the top of the third. Billy Fluharty drew a walk, and Trommer got his second hit of the day to right field to move Fluharty to third. Fluharty then came home to score on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.
The Buccaneers had the answer again in the fourth inning. Adelmann struck out the first two batters of the inning, but a walk, a hit-batter and an error tied the game.
Mikey Myro returned to the mound for the first time in nearly a year, and the senior opened his 2026 account with a three-up, three-down inning in relief for Adelmann in the fifth. Myro then stranded two runners in the sixth to keep the game tied 2-2.
Chiaravallo came into the game to pinch-hit in the seventh, and his first hit of the season ended up over the centerfield wall for a 3-2 lead.
The Bucs continued to battle back, and after leaving nine runners stranded through six innings, they broke open for four runs to take a 6-3 lead. The Bucs loaded the bases, and a walk tied the game back up. With two outs, Blake Edgmon hit a double to drive in all three runs.
Hadley Maxwell pitched 1.1 innings in relief with one strikeout. He pitched a three-up, three-down inning in the eighth after the Bucs big inning.
