
Women's Lacrosse Squeaks Past Mount St. Mary's 8-7

Emmitsburg, Md. — Bucknell's defense held Mount St. Mary's to just two goals in the second half and forced the Mount into 19 turnovers, an unusual high for the team, leading the Bison to an 8-7 victory. With the win, Bucknell moves to 3-2 overall on the season and creates a two-game winning streak.
Caroline Sheridan continued her hot scoring streak from the game against Kent State, adding two more goals to her tally bringing it to seven on the season. Alex Nesbitt also found the back of the net twice and four other players notched goals in the contest. One of the four was Allie Boyce, who was guarded well by Mount St. Mary's and didn't have too many opportunities at the net, but capitalized when she could, bringing her one goal away from breaking into the top-five in career goals at Bucknell.
Both teams saw half their goals come assisted. For Bucknell, Taylor McClain notched a goal and one assist, giving her 100 career points (29G, 71A) and bringing her one away from breaking into the top three in career assists for the Bison.
The game was truly a back-and-forth battle with both sides showing their persistence and grit for the full 60 minutes. Bucknell's Ava Harris opened the scoring for Bucknell before the Mount scored back-to-back goals. Bucknell responded with back-to-back goals of their own from McClain and Nesbitt to end the first quarter with a 3-2 lead.
The second quarter shared a similar story as the first. It began with Mount St. Mary's tying the game at three. Bucknell then had back-to-back goals from Nesbitt and Alex Macutek, which was followed up by back-to-back goals from Mount St. Mary's to tie the game 5-5 at the half.
The second half of play was highlighted by a terrific defensive performance by the Bison, who allowed ony two goals in 30 minutes. The third quarter saw two goals for Bucknell and one for Mount St. Mary's to make it a one-goal game (7-6) heading into the fourth quarter. Sheridan found the back of the net with 8:52 left in the game to extend the Bison's lead to two. Four minutes later, Mount St. Mary's Anna Salerno cashed in to make it a one-goal game with under five minutes left. With forty seconds left on the clock, Mackenzi Furlong had a nice look at the back of the net, but goalie Colleen Kazanjian had an even better save to secure the 8-7 victory for Bucknell.
The Bison struggled once again on draw controls only having five to the Mount's 13, but Bucknell's defense alleviated the damage as they caused 10 turnovers on the afternoon to Mount St. Mary's seven, and the Bison only turned over the ball 15 times to the Mount's 19. Bucknell also nudged out Mount St. Mary's in ground balls having 19 to their 14.
Both teams were stellar on the clears as Bucknell went 20-for-21 and Mount St. Mary's had a perfect 18-for-18 on the afternoon.
This game marked the first of four road games for the Bison as they will head to Florida next week for a slate of spring break games. First up for the Bison will be an afternoon contest against Xavier at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 7.
