Men's Water Polo Crushes Mercyhurst in MAWPC Championships Consolation Round

BRONX, N.Y.- Fourth-seeded Bucknell (11-16) bounced back from last night's upset to Wagner to dismantle seventh-seeded Mercyhurst 23-6 in Saturday's afternoon MAWPC Consolation Round. The Bison built a 7-2 lead and rode its early wave to a 3-0 season record against the Lakers.

Aleksa Stefanovic scored five goals in the opening period as part of his game-high six tallies to pace Bucknell. 12 different Bison found the cage, as part of the overwhelming offensive pressure.

Mercyhurst tied the game at 1-1 but that goal notched the high water mark for the Lakers. Bucknell uncorked a 6-1 run, powered by Stefanovic's five goals, to firmly grab the lead.

Bucknell kept the offensive momentum rolling with a 6-2 second quarter for the comfortable 13-2 halftime lead.

The third period repeated its predecessor's scoring mark, as the Bison continued to use their deep bench.

The Bison ended the game outscoring Mercyhurst 4-0 in the final quarter. Jake Wedding tallied two goals.

Bucknell will face Mount St. Mary's tomorrow at 9 a.m. to complete the MAWPC Championships.
