Offensive Explosion Fuels Men's Water Polo's 2-0 Saturday

ERIE, Pa.- Bucknell (8-6, 3-1 MAWPC) proved that offense travels in water polo on Saturday afternoon. The Bison scored a combined 47 goals in two blowout wins over Mercyhurst (2-12, 0-3 MAWPC) and Mount St. Mary's (4-8, 0-3 MAWPC). The Orange & Blue dismantled the Lakers 20-9 and toppled the Mountaineers 27-14. Bucknell has won five straight games and three consecutive conference matches.

The 27 goals represented the best scoring outburst for Bucknell since notching 34 on Oct. 1, 1994 against Johns Hopkins. The Bison scored 26 goals last year versus Mercyhurst.

Mercyhurst Recap

The Bison shot a sizzling 20-of-30 (66.7%) and never were threatened against the host team. Ten different players contributed goals, as the Lakers were overmatched against Bucknell's offensive attack.

Tyler Hedblad and Jovan Udovicic tied for the team lead in goals (3).

Bucknell trailed 1-0. That was the game's only negative for the Bison. The offense turned on the jets and led 4-1 by the period's conclusion.

The Bison machine did not halt in the second quarter. Five more goals were tallied and Bucknell led 9-4 at halftime.

Bucknell found the net five more times in the third quarter, as Mercyhurst struggled in vain to keep up.

The Orange & Blue polished off the Lakers with six more goals in the final quarter for the 20-9 win.

The Mount Recap

Bucknell's offense performed at a historic rate, shooting 27-of-34 (79.4%), as the Bison racked up another win in the Route 15 Rivalry. Once again, ten different Bison recorded a tally, as the Orange & Blue produced a football score.

Jack Dillane paced Bucknell with five goals. A trio of Bison sharpshooters, Hedblad, Ori Raz, and Hudson Tweed, each scored four goals.

The Bison were actually on pace to score 36 goals - which would have been a program record - with a nine-goal first quarter.

Things slightly stabilized for the Mount in the second quarter. Its defense held Bucknell to six goals while scoring four but the Bison still led 15-8.

The Mountaineers upped their efforts and found the net six times in the third period. The Bison were disdainful of any comeback by scoring eight times.

Bucknell's defense zeroed in on the Mount, holding its rival to zero goals in the final quarter. The Bison added four more insurance goals for the 27-14 victory.
