Men's Water Polo Heads to Erie for Two MAWPC Matches

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell men's water polo (6-6, 1-1 MAWPC), reaching .500 status after a brutally tough opening schedule, seeks to move above the baseline and add two more conference wins to its ledger this Saturday when the Bison face Mercyhurst (1 p.m.) and Route 15 Rival Mount St. Mary's (4 p.m.). Both games will be streamed on NEC Front Row.

The Inside "Herd" on the Bison
- Bucknell went 3-1 at its annual invitational. The Bison started the weekend with a respectable 22-11 loss to #5 Fordham. Bucknell was tied 6-6 with Fordham before the Rams turned on the afterjets. The Orange & Blue rallied the troops and dropped Salem 15-9, handled Wagner 19-14 in an extremely physical conflict, and harpooned LIU 17-9.Â
- The Orange & Blue were picked third in the MAWPC Preseason Poll.Â
- Tyler Hedblad paces the Bison with 30, followed by Jack Dillane with 28, Pier Giorgio Cicchetti has 23, and Sean Tunnicliff has scored 22 times.Â
- Goalkeeper David Dumitru has recorded 89 saves.Â
- Cicchetti leads the team in assists (30) and points (76).Â
- Bucknell has played seven ranked Division I teams, and eight ranked teams overall, if including Division III Occidental. Â
- Mercyhurst is 1-11 overall and 0-2 in MAWPC affairs. The Lakers were present at the Bucknell Invitational and went 0-3 against MAWPC foes Fordham and Wagner and recorded a loss to non-conference opponent MIT. Their sole win came against Washington & Jefferson.Â
- Mount St. Mary's sits 3-7 overall and 0-2 in MAWPC action. The Mount also attended the Bucknell Invitational, and like its fellow Catholic school, went 0-3. The Mountaineers fell against MAWPC foe #5 Fordham and dropped matches to LIU and MIT. MSM defeated Austin, Iona, and LIU for its three wins. Â
