LEWISBURG, Pa. Bella Rodriguez and Sidney Shaffer each recorded a game-high 17 kills to lead Bucknell (8-13, 5-7 Patriot League) in a four-set win (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16) over Lafayette (4-18, 2-10 Patriot League) on Saturday night to break the Bison's five-game losing streak. The victory completed the series sweep over Lafayette.Â
Bucknell rolled to the victory recording 62 kills to Lafayette's 46. The Bison collected 76 digs to the Leopards' 53 and served six aces.Â
Rodriguez added 14 digs to her offensive output and was part of four Bison who recorded double-digit digs. Bri Frazilus paced the squad with 18. Tijana Kostic and Cameron Lloyd both supplied 16. Caleigh O'Connell provided 31 assists on a crisp .674 percentage and passed the 2,800 career milestone for third in Bucknell history.Â
The first set was tightly contested with seven ties and three lead changes. Bucknell gained control at the midway point before the Leopards rallied for a 21-19 lead. The Bison uncorked a 6-1 run powered by three Rodriguez kills to seize the advantage and win the set.Â
Bucknell built an early lead in the second set until Lafayette fought back and tied it at 13-13. The Orange & Blue promptly responded with a 3-0 run, giving the Bison a lead they would never lose. Lafayette made it interesting with a quick burst for a 17-16 deficit before an 8-2 Bison run won the set.Â
Bison dreams of a sweep were ended when the Leopards, trailing 8-6, went on a 6-1 run. Bucknell tried to regain momentum and squeezed within 13-12. A 6-0 Lafayette run ended any pretensions of a comeback and the visitors coasted to the 25-19 set win to extend the match.
The teams traded runs to start the fourth set before Bucknell made a 6-0Â decisive stretch when the score was 6-5 Lafayette. The Leopards broke the streak with two points but the Bison answered with a 5-0 run to cement the advantage. Bucknell found its groove and rolled to the 25-16 set win and overall victory.Â
The Bison look to keep its momentum going when the team travels tomorrow to Lehigh for the Keystone Clash.Â
