EMMITSBURG, Pa.- Aleksa Stefanovic shot a perfect 7-for-7 to lead Bucknell (9-14, 5-5 MAWPC) past Route 15 rival Mount St. Mary's (9-19, 2-7 MAWPC) on Saturday afternoon. The win halted Bucknell's three-game losing streak.Â
Stefanovic's flawless shooting percentage powered the Bison to an outstanding 18-of-25 shooting. The Bison needed every goal in the exceptional tight game. Two of the four quarters featured the teams tying in goals scored.Â
Bucknell led 5-3 after the opening stanza and that margin set the winning edge for the Bison. The Mount scored the first goal but Bucknell countered with a 4-1 run before a Mountaineer found the cage as the period ended.
The Bison led 7-4 in the second quarter before the Mount squeezed within 7-6. Bucknell rebuilt its lead to 9-6 but again Mount St. Mary scored as a period was concluding.Â
The Mountaineers opened the second half with a goal. The Orange & Blue replied with a 4-0 run. Once again, the Mount refused to fold its cards and trailed only 14-11 entering the fourth quarter.Â
The Mount twice got within one goal (14-13 and 15-14). An Andrew Hunyady score and two Stefanovic tallied ended those fears for a decisive 18-14 lead. Mount St. Mary's was out of rally and could only muster one goal.Â
Bucknell completes the regular season next Saturday against Fordham and Wagner.Â
