THE BRONX & STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's water polo team concluded the 2025 regular season with a pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference matches in New York on Saturday, and the Bison capped off the busy day with a wild 18-17 win over Wagner. Earlier in the day, Bucknell fell 18-4 at No. 5 Fordham.
Now 10-15 overall and 6-6 in the MAWPC, the Bison finished off a season sweep of the Seahawks in their second game of the day, led by a season-high-tying five goals from Tyler Hedblad. Bucknell opened up a 13-9 advantage midway through the third quarter on a goal from Hedblad, but Wagner responded with five straight in span of just 3:28 to go up 14-13.
Greg Nordheim tied it up in the final minute of the period, and the two teams alternated goals in the first part of the fourth quarter. The Bison took the lead for good on back-to-back goals from Aleksa Stefanovic and Jack Dillane just 50 seconds apart.
Wagner pulled one back on a 10 goal with 1:57 to play, but the Bison held on despite a late exclusion in last five seconds of the match. David Dumitru finished with eight saves in goal, and Hedblad, Jack Murad (4), and Stefanovic (3) all recorded multiple goals. Dillane was a beast in the center, drawing eight ejections.
Bucknell's 18 goals came on 32 shot attempts, and the Bison went 7-for-13 with a man advantage.
Earlier in the day, the Bison were limited to four goals on 27 shots against the fifth-ranked Rams, who are now 22-3 on the season. Stefanovic, Hedblad, Jovan Udovicic, and Ian Shultz scored Bucknell's goals, and Dumitru finished with nine saves and four steals.
Stefanovic went over the 80-goal mark on the season with his four tallies in the two games on Saturday. He now has a team-high 83, with Hedblad next with 58.
Bucknell will return to The Bronx Nov. 21-23 for the MAWPC Championship.
