Bucknell at a Glance
- Two games remain in the 2025 regular season, and the Bison have work to do to secure a Patriot League Tournament berth. Bucknell enters PL Match Day No. 8 one point outside of the top six, and now the squad faces a tough road test on Saturday against co-leader Colgate, the alma mater of Bison head coach Kelly Cook.
- Bucknell has only lost two of its seven Patriot League contests so far, but four of the results have been draws. The top six teams qualify for the Patriot League Tournament, and with seven points, the Bison sit one point behind sixth-place Holy Cross, two behind fifth-place Navy, and three behind fourth-place Loyola.
- Meanwhile, Colgate and Boston University are tied atop the table with 16 points from 5-1-1 records. Boston University visits last-place Lehigh on Saturday, and then the Raiders and Terriers meet in Boston next Wednesday on the final night of the regular season. Army lurks just three points off the pace and finishes with Loyola at home and away at Holy Cross.
- After being held without a goal for four straight games, the Bison finally got on the board last Sunday against Navy, and it was a big one. Henna Andican's strike after assists from Dani Howard and Louisa Thomsen with just over four minutes to play helped salvage a 1-1 draw after the Bison had been trailing since the ninth minute.
- This was just the second time in school history that Bucknell was shut out in four straight games. The only other occurrence came in 2022, when the Bison bounced back and ultimately won the Patriot League championship.
- The goal drought came as a bit of a surprise, as the Bison were the third-highest-scoring team in the league behind only the two service academies. They have now dipped to fifth at 1.06 goals per game.
- Andican leads the team and ranks fourth in the Patriot League with six goals. Katie Connell (4) and Gaby Parker (3) close behind, and Louisa Thomsen, Dani Howard, Emma Gavin, and Reilly Traynor have one goal each.
- Reese Dolan is in her first year as Bucknell's starting goalkeeper, and she ranks fourth in the league in goals-against average (1.15) and save percentage (.792). Dolan has allowed 15 goals in 13 appearances, but seven of those came in two games against Boston University and Army.
- The Bison have a different look this season, as 12 players have made their first career starts and five have scored their first career goals. The current starting XI typically features three freshmen and five sophomores.
- Bucknell won three straight Patriot League championships from 2021-23, and last year the Bison claimed the PL regular-season title before falling to Boston University in a 10-round penalty-kick shootout in the championship match. The Bison graduated a highly decorated senior class, led by three-time PL Midfielder of the Year Teresa Deda and 2024 PL Defensive Player of the Year Katie Schiano.
- Andican and Connell both earned Preseason All-Patriot League honors. Andican was a Second Team All-PL pick in 2023, but last year she suffered a season-ending injury in just the fifth game of the campaign. Connell was a Third Team All-PL pick as a freshman in 2024.
- Andican, Sydney Hess, and Meghan White are this year's captains.
- Head coach Kelly Cook is in her 11th season at Bucknell, and she has led the Bison to five league titles in her first 10 years. Cook owns a career record of 98-70-33 (.570) and a Patriot League mark of 53-22-18 (.667). She holds the program records for most coaching wins and highest winning percentage.
- Cook knows the Patriot League very well, as she was a two-year captain and three-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection at Colgate, where she recorded 27 goals and 23 assists in her career. She ranked in the top 10 in program history in career points (77) and assists. As a junior in 2004, Cook (then Kelly Kuss) was named Patriot League Tournament MVP after leading the Raiders to the league title, and then her team knocked off Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the first NCAA win in school and league history.       Â
- The Raiders are one of the league's hottest teams, and they are now gunning for their first Patriot League regular-season title since 2014 after clinching a tournament bid last week. Since falling 3-0 at Army on Oct. 4, Colgate has shot back with three straight wins over American (2-1), Lehigh (2-1), and Loyola (3-0). The Raiders outshot those three opponents 62-16.
- Saturday's away win at Loyola was impressive, as the Raiders scored twice in the first 25 minutes and limited the Greyhounds to only five total shots all day.
- Colgate is 4-1-2 at home this season, with the only loss coming against Stony Brook by a 2-1 count all the way back on Aug. 31.
- Ari Bezanson and Josie Tunney lead the team with five goals apiece, while Ana Schremp and Lydia Thornton have three each. That quartet has accounted for 16 of the team's 24 goals this season.
- Tunney scored both goals in the Lehigh win and added another against Loyola, leading to a Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week citation on Monday. Bezanson was named PL Midfielder of the Week after tallying a goal and an assist against Loyola.
- Ella Poppinga has played every minute in goal for Colgate. She has 72 saves and 19 goals allowed, good for a .791 save percentage and 1.19 GAA.Â
- Bucknell is 11-24-3 all-time against Colgate in a series that dates back to 1991, but the Bison are 2-0-1 in the last three meetings.
- Kelly Cook went 4-1 against Bucknell as a player with the Raiders. Cook (then Kelly Kuss) scored a goal against Bucknell in a 2-0 win during her freshman year in 2002, and she assisted on Colgate's second goal in a 2-0 verdict in 2004. In her final season in 2006 – she missed the 2005 season due to injury – her Colgate team lost 2-1 at Emmitt Field in the regular season but avenged that defeat with a 2-1 win over the top-seeded Bison in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Â
- Bucknell won 3-0 last season at Emmitt Field on the opening weekend of Patriot League play. Presley Sutter's first career goal gave the Bison the lead with 2:31 left in the first half, and then Teresa Deda scored just 1:39 into the second half to make it 2-0. Deda added another off an assist from Riley Hayes in the 86th minute.
- In the last meeting in Hamilton, the Bison and Raiders played to a scoreless draw. Jenna Hall tallied four saves for the Bison, while Alli Popham had six for Colgate. Â
- Henna Andican's first career goal came in Bucknell's 3-0 win over Colgate at Emmitt Field in 2022.Â
- The Bison wrap up the regular season at home against American on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Â
